Work hard, work out: 4 Seattle tech companies with a gym at the office

Aside from the obvious health advantages, physical exercise has the capacity to clear your mind, reset your thinking and allow you to approach a problem from new angles. Whether you’re building a product, crafting its marketing message or pitching it to prospects, every role at a budding tech company involves some degree of problem solving — so having built-in fitness facilities where workers can stay healthy and get those thinking juices flowing makes sense.

Here are four Seattle area companies where you can sweat it out in-house.

Work: Amplero applies AI’s vast capabilities for data analysis to marketing impressions and interactions. The Seattle company’s technology can test and analyze huge amounts of scenarios and variations, and use the results to optimize individual customer interactions to maximize their value and loyalty to a brand.

Work out: The fifth floor of Amplero’s office building at 3rd and University features a number of amenities, including a gym, showers and lounge, along with foosball and ping pong tables.

Work: Textio’s artificial intelligence algorithms scan job listings as they’re written, looking for phrases and keywords that can be tweaked to maximize the chances that a job seeker will apply for the position. The company has data indicating which combinations of words will influence whether a job seeker actually applies for a position, and provides recommendations for more persuasive word choices in real time.

Work out: There is a gym in the company’s office building at 5th and Madison, and Textio employees get a heavy discount on their monthly membership fee.

Work: Kyoto’s beloved gaming giant has been around for over a century, and keeps its North American headquarters in Redmond. The company behind wildly popular franchises like Mario, the Legend of Zelda and Pokemon employs everyone from data scientists to translators at the Redmond base, offering incentives and support for employees to quit smoking, stay active and further their education.

Work out: Nintendo’s Healthy Living Program helps support expenses toward certain fitness or wellness activities. The Redmond campus also has an on-site fitness center that features personal training, group classes, sports facilities and more.

Work: Bungie’s most famous product is the Halo game series, along with Destiny and the Marathon trilogy. The company raised $100 million in funding earlier this year from Chinese game publisher NetEase, and is using the money to create new game franchises. Bungie was founded in Chicago in 1991 before moving to Bellevue, where it was acquired by Microsoft in 2000 — before spinning out again in 2007.

Work out: Bungie employees enjoy a fully-paid gym membership — and a rock climbing wall on site.
