The Agriculture Business Development Manager Specialist Industry Specialist is responsible for proactively pursuing new customers and opportunities within Focus Industries in the AG Brenntag Mid-South’s Agriculture market space. while maintaining and growing assigned accounts within the territory. The individual will focus specifically on Agricultural Chemical and Nutrient Manufacturers. the Producer and Retail markets within the assigned region. The individual will work closely with the local generalist sellers, sales and district management, customer service, operations and purchasing to maximize agriculture sales in the region and ensure customers receive superior service and quality products. Prospects include crop protection, plant nutrition, and soil health producers, toll blenders, retail outlets including cooperatives and local seed, fertilizer, and chemical dealers. Key markets include: adjuvants, bactericides, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, micronutrients, diesel exhaust fluid, coolants, etc.
Job Description:Customer Business Development (40%)
Meet sales objectives and focus on customer retention as well as improving overall customer satisfaction (also through digital channels).
Create and drive Agriculture Strategy and focus across all of Brenntag.
Qualify and Actively pursue new accounts and new opportunities at existing accounts and applications within the agriculture market of the assigned region.
Work with General Managers within the regions Generalist Sellers to identify potential Agriculture opportunities. business within each seller’s territory.
Accompany generalist the sellers on customer calls and support them throughout the sales process.
Utilize Salesforce to ensure opportunities become part of the official pipeline, are valid and transparent.
Sell agriculture solutions, demonstrate an understanding of all solutions, and effectively communicates our products and values to customers.
Consistently improving and striving for success in achieving or exceeding sales targets
Attend conferences and other trade shows to generate sales opportunities in person
Provide technical support to key clients in assigned territory including application rates and field results.
Sell nitrogen stabilizers, humic and fulvic acids, micronutrients, adjuvants, acids, alcohols, hydrocarbons, chelating agents, glycols, phosphates, sulfates, etc.
Maintain accurate, detailed, and comprehensive knowledge of the potential of each account in assigned territory through utilization of sales tools including Salesforce, ERP (BUS) system, Qlik, etc.
New Customer Generation (30%)
Territory will have limited directly-serviced accounts. As new accounts are prospected and established, the Business Development Specialist will turn over these accounts to local sales representatives within Brenntag Mid-South. The Business Development Specialist will receive financial bonuses for each new account and each new opportunity developed at new and existing ag accounts that they create.
Act as a resource for non-technical or less technical sellers through joint sales calls.
Assist in roll-out of new principal products and product lines to sales team providing joint call and technical support for these products
Liaison between key suppliers, customers and relevant internal stakeholders such as product management and sales to maintain and grow sales on new and existing focus products
Sales & General Admin (30%)
Computer skills – Expert-level use of PC computer and specialized software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Salesforce, and Qlik Capable of quickly researching, extracting data and presenting insightful and actionable information to leadership.
Liaison between key suppliers, customers, and relevant internal stakeholders such as product management and sales to maintain and grow sales on new and existing focus products.
Submit reports on your sales activity weekly into Salesforce, monthly to your manager and maintain clean and updated records for all leads and customers.
Oversee and ensure that customer quotations are kept up to date territory- wide.
Control pricing within preset company limits in collaboration with product and sales management.
Maintain customer database, forecasting sales and gross profit (monthly, quarterly, yearly).
Research, qualify, and introduce new products to management team for possible inclusion in product portfolio.
Capacity to develop sales strategies providing value added services and promote products.
Weekly travel within assigned region up to 60%. Airline travel will be required bi-monthly quarterly with 4-66-10 hotel nights each month.
Ability to Drive Business Growth – Participates actively in development and implementation of strategic and tactical marketing and sales business plans that increase gross profit and expand market share within the Agriculture Industry.
Maintain a high-level of product knowledge and develop strong relationships to become a consultant with prospective and acquired customers overcoming market challenges and positioning the value of Brenntag products and services.
Develop business plans to strategically target agriculture customers retailers in assigned territory forecasting future sales and budgets.
Leverage and execute lead generation campaigns and research trials as appropriate.
Understand and deploy a working knowledge of EPA, Resource Districts, and state regulations.
Ability to multi-task – Manages multiple tasks at one time; quickly and accurately shifts attention among multiple tasks under distracting conditions without loss of accuracy or appearance of frustration.
Ability to work in a field setting and establish rapport with Certified Crop Advisors and Independent Crop Consultants to analyze crop deficiencies and recommend alternative resolutions to problems.
Assist in management of research trials including prepared budgets, protocols, write ups or publications.
Participate in industry meetings and organizations that are focused industries and target markets identified as key to achieving company objectives.
Communication skills – Reads, writes and speaks fluent English, using appropriate grammar, style and vocabulary. Correctly spells commonly used English words and job specific terms. Demonstrates exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills.
Organizational ability – Demonstrates a systematic approach in carrying out assignments. Is very orderly and excels at cutting through confusion and turning chaos into order.
Problem solving skills – Demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Decisive in handling difficult problems.
Translates problems into practical solutions and is capable of understanding relationships and dependencies within different metrics and behaviors.
Client service skills – Consistently ensures the client is provided with attentive, courteous and informative service. Gains and shows personal satisfaction from delivering great service.
Intellectual ability – Accurately and consistently follows instructions delivered in an oral, written or diagram format. Ability to learn on the fly.
Computer skills – Comfortable and confidently uses a computer and specialized software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Salesforce or a similar CRM program. Capable
Bachelor’s Degree required preferred or better in Agriculture or Business related field.
3+ years of proven sales/sales support/account management experience in previous roles. Agriculture industry sales and technical support specific experience preferred and a proven interest in agriculture market required. CCA a plus.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Annual training requirements of 40 hours continuing education credits for CCA accredited programs required.
