Job Summary & Responsibilities

Raymond West is looking for a driven Business Development Representative (BDR) to join our Sales team! The BDR provides a vital communication and sales link between our customers and our company to ensure continuing customer satisfaction.  The BDR is responsible for making cold calls to discover new business opportunities in our market and will with senior Account Managers to develop leads and sell materials handling equipment.

The Business Development Representative requires most of your time be in the field seeking new customers. Independently, the BDR will have the opportunity to sell pallet trucks, catalog items and can introduce rental equipment.  The BDR also provides an outreach to users of our equipment who are not currently using our service or buying our parts to secure this business. Each BDR has a defined territory, which is his or her area of responsibility. The BDR has the responsibility for all current and potential customers within this defined area, both Raymond and non-Raymond equipment users.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make thirty cold-call contacts per day, for a minimum of three days per week.
  • Identify business opportunities through resources such as newspapers, Dunn and Bradstreet and internet sources. Network with commercial real estate companies and Chambers of Commerce
  • Generate sales leads through literature drops, mail, e-mail and campaigns.
  • Increase market awareness through warm calling.
  • Create and manage prospective customer database.
  • Digitize all contacts through Outlook for mail merge campaigns.
  • Work closely with Marketing Department to develop new customer.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent Organizational Time Management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft office Suite and similar software  
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with employees, Co-workers, and Managers in other departments.
  • Must be willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate and willing to assume more responsibility as required.
  • Ability to deal with difficult people or circumstances with positive outcome.
  • Willing to attend seminars and classes to update/improve various skills.
  • Capable of making sound decisions.
  • Present a neat, professional appearance.
  • Able to use time efficiently.
  • Capable of communicating with people at all levels of management both internally and externally
  • Able to work in conjunction with other departments as needed.
  • Willing and able to learn quickly and perform accurately and neatly with a degree of flexibility.
  • Motivated to continuous self-development and training.
  • Must be able to possess a current, valid, unrestricted Driver license.

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year College or technical school is preferred or two years sales experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Travel Requirement: 

  • Driving 4 - 6 hours daily to cover sales territory.
  • Manage daily documentation and reporting requirements for your route.
  • Must be able to be insured by Raymond West.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Position is non-Sedentary and described as “outside” or “field” Sales.
  • Frequently traveling to meet customers face-to-face, as well as to maintain relationships with existing customers.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  

Pay Range:

  • The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $100,000, which is a combination of base salary plus commission.  The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.                                                                                                                          

A Business Development Representative may be driving a company vehicle from time to time and will need to be able to be insured by Raymond West and must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
