Avalara’s Marketing Content team is charged with creating materials that attract, and inform new customer prospects and lead them into our purchasing funnel. The Content Writer/Producer is one of the lead writers in the organization and will take primary responsibility for the written form, including the research, production, writing, and analysis of a wide range of assets. Sales tax can be a dry topic, so an engaging and dynamic approach — both in tone and form — is an important success factor. Equally important, however, is the ability and commitment to track and understand the effectiveness of the content in moving prospects to the next phase of the buyer’s journey. A primary focus is on conversion and getting the reader to take action. As a data driven marketing team, we use advanced analytic tools to measure performance by testing and optimizing our online content.

As a small team serving an extensive marketing and demand generation organization, we produce a tremendous amount of material, so we’re looking for a self-starter who’ll collaborate, research, and write quickly. A key quality for success is someone who can produce high-caliber work in an efficient manner, frequently in short periods of time.

Job Duties:

  • Build extensive knowledge in the subject of transaction tax and Avalara’s advanced technology solutionos while staying in tune with our industry, our partner community, and our competitors

    • Infographic content — develop concepts for data-driven stories; write content and manage production
    • Product sales literature — create compelling copy for electronic and print data sheets, brochures, etc.
      • Content and descriptions for promotional programs and initiatives, advertising copy, and public relations material
    • Optimize content performance, using Adobe Analytics, BrightEdge, and other platforms.
    • Edit/improve materials written by internal and third-party resources
  • Work with internal design teams and external writers and designers (contract, freelance, and agencies) to ensure high-quality finished products
    • Act as point of contact and in-house liaison with outsourced marketing service providers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Portfolio or website with extensive, varied, and relevant long-form and short-form writing samples
  • Five years or more of experience in this type of role (content writer, editorial writer, copywriter)
  • Strategic marketing work experience (focus on B2B)
  • Bachelor of Arts degree
