JOB SUMMARY

Code.org is looking for part-time Curriculum Writers with several years of experience teaching high school computer science, particularly CSA. Successful candidates will have some experience developing and writing curriculum, ideally for a wide audience, and a passion for writing equitable lessons that encourage young women and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, and fluency in Java.

In this role, you will: 

• Work as a member of a team of writers to write and revise Code.org’s high school curriculum.

• Incorporate research-based best practices for equity and pedagogy to build engaging and approachable lessons for all students (particularly young women and underrepresented groups) and their teachers.

• Actively seek and incorporate feedback from the team, teachers, and students through ongoing testing and evaluation of the curriculum.

• Revise the curriculum based on feedback.

• Provide feedback to other writers on the curricular materials they have developed. 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Recent high school classroom experience teaching CSA 

• Experience developing and writing computer science to standards 

• Strong writing and communication skills

• Fluency with programming in Java

• Knowledge of the high school grade bands of the CSTA standards 

• Deep understanding of and dedication to equity, best practices to support equitable classroom environments, and gender- and culturally-responsive teaching practices

• The creativity and expertise to develop engaging, fun CS activities that can be used successfully with a wide range of learners, and be taught by a wide range of teachers

Preferred

• Experience teaching in a classroom environment with students from marginalized racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in computer science and/or students from low-income communities (strongly preferred)

• Experience/familiarity with Code.org curriculum
