JOB SUMMARY

Code.org is looking for a Curriculum Writer with several years of experience teaching computer science at the elementary school level. Successful candidates will have some experience developing and writing curriculum, ideally for a wide audience, a passion for creating equitable lessons that encourage young women and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, and ideally experience integrating CS into other subjects. Join our team to help us strengthen our K-5 course materials and develop high-quality, engaging, equitable curricula that will be used by thousands of teachers and students around the country!

In this role, you will: 

• Work as a member of a team of writers to develop, write, and revise Code.org’s K-5 curriculum.

• Incorporate research-based best practices for equity and pedagogy to build engaging and approachable lessons for all students (particularly young women and underrepresented groups) and their teachers.

• Actively seek and incorporate feedback from the team, teachers, and students through ongoing testing and evaluation of the curriculum.

• Revise the curriculum based on feedback you have received.

• Provide feedback to other writers on the curricular materials they have developed. 

We anticipate that this role will require flexibility to travel

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

As our ideal candidate, you have experience developing and writing computer science curriculum to standards; strong writing and communications skills; are quick to pick up new technology, effectively prioritize and multi-task, and excel under pressure. 

You should also have: 

Required

• Recent K-5 classroom experience (additional middle school experience is a plus)

• Comprehensive knowledge of computer science, including the concepts covered in the K-5 band of the CSTA standards

• Deep understanding of and dedication to equity, best practices to support equitable classroom environments, and gender- and culturally-responsive teaching practices

• The creativity and expertise to develop engaging, fun CS activities that can be used successfully with a wide range of learners, and be taught by a wide range of teachers

• Prior curriculum writing/activity design experience

• Some familiarity with principles of pedagogy and research-based best practices in education

Preferred

• Experience integrating computer science education into other subject areas such as ELA and math

• Experience teaching in a classroom environment with students from marginalized racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in computer science and/or students from low-income communities (strongly preferred)

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or Computer Science 

• Experience/familiarity with Code.org curriculum, and with other K-5 CS curricula

• Experience supporting and collaborating with other teachers on CS lessons
