The Dog People—Rover’s popular media outlet—seeks a contract Shopping Editor to build our product review content. This position will be responsible for editing and publishing articles and managing our shopping editorial calendar.

Are you an experienced and confident editor? Do you have talent creating and managing short- and long-form product reviews and consumer-facing shopping content? Do you get a jolt of excitement when you discover a game-changing product that your readers will love? If so, we’d love to meet you!

You'll help our audience discover great pet products through fun and informative formats, from thoughtful and in-depth product reviews to themed roundups. Experience working with freelance writers and a background in branded content is essential.

This role is dedicated to crafting recommendations and informational content that helps dog people be the best pet parents possible. You’ll conduct research; partner with freelancers, cross-functional teams, and our vibrant community; and craft high-impact reviews that guide pet parents to products that’ll enhance their (and their dogs’) lives.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience writing and editing online reviews. We’re looking for a skilled editor who knows how to shape ideas into engaging and informational content. You’ll need excellent research skills, impeccable proofreading abilities, and a strong grasp of voice and tone. An exceptional attention to detail, from voice to grammar, is key. Editors should feel comfortable with Wordpress and have basic/foundational knowledge of HTML and image formatting.

You’ll need a keen sense of voice, a fanatical eye for quality products, and a love of data. This role includes implementing SEO best practices, editing and optimizing content, and reporting on metrics. You’re fired up to dig into the numbers and optimize articles to reach the right people with the right products.

Key Responsibilities:

- Research pet products

- Assign, edit, publish (and sometimes write) reviews, shopping guides, and product roundups

- Track and analyze posts

- Manage an SEO plan and rigorously optimize content

- Build and refine an editorial calendar

- Manage a freelance network

- Communicate generously with cross-functional partners

- Collaborate with Rover’s editorial team

But you already knew you’d have to be a fierce editor, right? Rover’s publishing team walks the line between celebrating the wonderful weirdness of dogs (#CorgiButts4Ever) and obsessing over results (#Metrics). Here are some skills that’ll set you apart and help you succeed at Rover.

Exceptional candidates are talented editors with the following strengths:

  • Self-directed and accountable
  • Exceptional prioritization skills
  • Focused on business impact
  • Skilled and honest communicators
  • Action-oriented and unafraid of ambiguity
  • Consumer-obsessed with an eye for quality

If this sounds like you, then please apply! We’d love to hear from you.

Must work on-site in our Seattle office 2+ days per week. 35 hours/week. Through December 2019.
