Alexa Smart Home is focused on making Alexa the voice-activated user interface for the home. Alexa helps fulfill many customer needs, from home security and entertainment to providing information and shopping – all using just your voice. Alexa works with may smart home devices – customers can ask her to switch on a lamp, turn on the fan, dim the lights, or increase the temperature. We are evolving Alexa into an intelligent, indispensable companion that automates daily routines, simplifies interaction with appliances and electronics, and alerts when something unusual is detected.

A day in the life
The Smart Home Decision Science team provide analytics for business owners that provide decision guidance and influences business decisions. This role will play drive project delivery and ongoing performance optimization, working closely with diverse teams across Alexa including Product Managers, Engineering Leads and Finance.

About the hiring group
The Smart Home Decision Science (SHDS) team combines the power of Smart Home BI engineering resources with Data Science to provide org-wide customer insights analytics. The team’s charter includes: 1) ownership of data infrastructure and data models, 2) self-service data services, 3) business reporting (e.g. xBRs, dashboards) and 4) exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms to deliver customer insights analytics.

Job responsibilities
Key areas of responsibility for this BIE role will include:
· Supporting strategic project planning, leveraging data to deliver customer insights, and deep dive on projects.
· Designing, developing and managing tools to support ongoing business reporting.
· Working with Data Engineering counterparts to develop the data pipeline and metric definitions.
· Building out business dashboards, self-service solutions, visualization tools and finance reports.
· Supporting continuous business performance optimization by designing and driving experiments to form actionable recommendations. Presenting recommendations to business leaders to drive decisions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related technical field.
· 2+ years’ experience as a business intelligence leader.
· Experience with gathering business requirements, using industry standard business intelligence tool(s) to extract data, formulate metrics, and build reports.
· Experience with coding, query development, and visualization – SQL, PL/SQL, Python, Redshift, and Tableau.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· 2+ years of experience in a data engineer or BIE role with a technology company
· Experience conducting large scale data analysis to support business decision making
· Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
· Be self-driven, and show ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data.
· An ability and interest in working in a fast-paced and rapidly-changing environment
· Passionate about scalable and future-proof processes, systems and data analytics.
