The Role:

Tango Card’s Business Intelligence Manager (“BI Manager”) is responsible for leading the BI (data) analysts and architect team, guiding their efforts in partnership with engineering to maximize efficiency and impact. Duties include assessing company and department analysis needs, representing the team/function, and reporting on industry trends and direction to leadership. The manager oversees performance management for the team.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

As a Manager of BI at Tango Card, you will:

  • Drive the scope and effectiveness of the Business Intelligence function through cross-functional team collaboration, system and process updates, and through the team’s own members.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert to democratize data usage across the Company
  • Work with Leadership, Product and Back Office/Operations teams to define and implement data-enabled user journeys.
  • Manage the BI roadmap that clearly defines ownership and responsibility between the BI function and the functional groups.
  • Assist and provide guidance as need with quantitative analysis through predictive analytics, predictive modeling, business process modeling and statistical analysis
  • Represent the BI team in defining requirements for projects and data requests, continually advocating holistic dataflow systems thinking. 
  • Proactively identify and create insights for such operations as product performance, sales opportunities, fraud detection, and regulatory compliance. Understand competitive market strategies and relate Tango Card performance to the greater industries.
  • Work with the BI Architect to maintain, update or find new BI tools and databases as part of thought leadership around BI-driven analytics.
  • Assist in building upon and document our common data framework so that all data can be connected, verified, and analyzed.
  • Regularly give BI training and presentations throughout the organization. 
  • Mentors and assists all members of the BI team, including holding regular 1:1s with all members of the BI team.
  • Manage priorities of projects and tasks for the BI team.
  • Gathers analysis and/or reporting requirements and negotiates deliverables.
  • Be very comfortable being a do-er and a leader for the BI team.

Our ideal Manager of BI will have most of the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of data/business analyst experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, technical and communication skills required
  • Experience managing analyst teams
  • Demonstrated experience with cross-department collaboration
  • Experience with BI reporting systems/tools, data modeling and data warehousing
  • Proficient with SQL, Excel, Jaspersoft
  • Exposure to R and Python is a plus
  • Willingness to question the validity and accuracy of data
  • Strategic thinker with tactical abilities.
  • Promotes an environment of sharing, exploration and collaboration
  • Be willing to enjoy the occasional virtual-happy hour, Sounders game, or office potluck!
