We’re looking for a data analyst to join the data engineering team and help us wrangle one of the world's largest collections of data on mobile and fixed internet performance. As a data analyst your primary focus will be supporting internal and external customers as they navigate the vast Ookla dataset using technologies including Redshift, Athena, MySQL, and RStudio. Successful applicants will have strong customer service drive, excellent communication skills, an inquisitive nature, and a creative approach to solving problems. Ideal candidates will also have experience with mobile and fixed broadband networking technologies and experience analyzing geospatial data.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with technical account managers to support customer data questions and custom analysis
  • Advocate for internal and external customer needs within Ookla
  • Provide analysis and data-driven support for the business including data preparation, quality assurance, and exploratory analysis
  • Support the creation of Ookla content pieces including articles, blog posts, and market reports
  • Develop metrics/dashboards for monitoring data trends or telling stories

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of at least one language for data analysis, e.g., R, Python/pandas, etc.
  • SQL expertise, and experience building & optimizing complex queries against large data sets
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods, such as those used in A/B testing
  • Highly driven and motivated to challenge the status quo, learn new things, and expand your abilities
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Proven history of exceptional customer service and advocacy
  • Experience with internet, cellular, and broadband technology and infrastructure
  • Strong self-starter with excellent time management skills for an office and virtual workplace
  • Dependable team player than enjoys learning from and teaching others
