Your Impact

You will establish and maintain D&A (data and analytics) architectural standards for data creation, manipulation and accessibility required to expand the company’s use of analytics as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. You will achieve this by strategically designing, developing, and implementing data models and standards that truly democratize analytical-based insights in partnership with product and business leadership. Axon will look to you to effectively coordinate the critical collaboration across key stakeholders and development teams to manage these necessary data lifecycle management practices and the associated technologies required.

Your Day to Day

  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for customer and product analytics-related data architecture vision in conjunction with product managers, product engineers, department leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • Assess and determine governance, stewardship and frameworks for creation and managing data across products and business systems for D&A requirements in coordination with stakeholders and councils.
  • Establish methods and procedures for tracking data quality, regulatory compliance and improvement for D&A.
  • Liaise with engineering leadership and vendors to select the products or services that best meet company goals for capturing and analyzing the machine and sensor data.
  • Create data mining and analytics architectures, coding standards, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies. Develop best practices for analytics instrumentation and experimentation.
  • Continually evaluate the D&A technology stack and tools against emerging technologies, methods and evolving requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers and business unit leaders for all projects involving enterprise data used for enterprise analytics.
  • Document the data architecture across products data stores in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture.
  • Develop and maintain data warehouse data catalog.
  • Participate in the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.
  • Facilitate data experiments in coordination with product and sales leaders.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Computer Science or related field. Master’s degree a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience with increasing responsible in Data Architectures involving both structured and unstructured data, SQL and NoSQL Database Development and Administration.
  • Hands-on experience with data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Microsoft Azure Data and Analytics technologies (Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Data Factory, HDInsight, Spark, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mining a Splunk environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mining a Mixpanel environment.
  • Experience in Tableau a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with ingesting and analyzing high volume and velocity machine, sensor and clickstream data.
  • Successful experience modeling for analytical applications, including semantic modeling
  • Broad understanding of governance best practices for data warehousing, lakes and analytics.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, “think big,” and challenge conventional wisdom.
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business and technical groups.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data.
  • A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.
