Due to COVID-19, Knock is currently operating as a remote company and all interviews will be conducted over phone or Zoom video calls. We plan to return to an office setting eventually, but that timeline has yet to be determined. The Role

We are looking for a talented and driven Director of Data Scientist who loves solving difficult, tangible business problems, and who also wants to build a great data science team around them. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams to evaluate and define opportunities to deliver exceptional value to our product portfolio and our customers. The ideal candidate will come with a proven ability to drive business results within the data science function, and will be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. They will also be excited about recruiting, guiding, and motivating future members of the data science team.

Our data asset is a unique and exciting one, and there are a number of exciting challenges where we are shaping how an industry works. Knock's rich multifamily housing data is unparalleled, and the possibilities for artificial-intelligence-based applications are numerous, including areas such as price optimization, recommender systems, conversational AI, and much more.

The Team

The Product Development team consists of 40 talented and passionate team members, working to make Knock the premier software product in the Multifamily real estate industry. The Data Science function is a growing team and areas of focus for the company.

Day to Day

• Create and own the data science roadmap
• Work with various stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to solve meaningful business problems
• Develop, test, analyze, and interpret hypothesis to discover value
• Deliver machine learning projects from beginning to end, including understanding the need, aggregating data, exploring data, building & validating predictive models, and deploying completed models
• Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
• Work closely with data engineering team to influence our analytics platform and ensure data science needs are met
• Recruit, guide, and motivate datas science team members

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models
• Prior work demonstrating development and deployment of data science applications (including API's) at scale
• Experience working with big data technologies and developing data science solutions in AWS
• Advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field, or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated leadership and self-direction. Willingness to both teach others and learn new techniques.
• Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
• Experience working with and creating data architectures.
• Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
• Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
• Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to articulate customer value is a must
• Experience directly managing other data scientists and/or engineers
