Data Warehouse Manager

As the Data Warehouse team, we build and operate OfferUp’s data warehouse. We manage batch and streaming computation for data loads, data analysis, and BI. OfferUp is the place for you if you are:

You will be part of a team that builds the data ingestion, transport, storage, and orchestration layers. You will help shape the vision and architecture of OfferUp’s next-generation data infrastructure. Making it easy for developers to build data-driven products and features, and business operations to make data-driven decisions.

Building a data warehouse for the largest and most responsive mobile marketplace poses unique data challenges that require leveraging the latest developments in data infrastructure. We leverage open-source infrastructure where we can, but are ready to build and share solutions if they don’t exist yet. You will be creating an analytics platform working with cutting-edge technologies like Kafka, Spark, Snowflake, and Airflow.

 Responsibilities:

• Ability to provide leadership, clear direction, and mentoring to data warehouse team and delegate effectively
• Ability to manage project scope and expectations effectively
• Influence technical direction for the company, leveraging your prior experiences, and helping evaluate emerging technologies and approaches
• Prioritize team workload
• Maintain, enhance, and enforce operational controls and processes
• Establish procedures and protocols for change management, executive reporting, and defect tracking
• Drive data warehouse best practices, set standards, and propose larger projects which may require cross-team collaboration
• Build and operate large scale data infrastructure in production.
• Think through long-term impacts of critical design decisions and handling failure scenarios
• Ability to design an on-time and accurate reporting system, to a broad audience
• Ability to work with both IT and Business Executives to identify and document an Enterprise Reporting vision at both the strategic and tactical levels
• Ensure the supervision and monitoring of all Data Warehouse system activity
• Contribute at a senior level to the data warehouse design and data preparation by implementing a robust and extensible design
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing disciplines such as data access, ETL, data management, data modeling, metadata, performance management, data quality, schema development, data marts, data dictionary and business intelligence (BI) tools
• Ability to manage CCPA and other governmental requirements

 Requirements:

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Thorough knowledge of data warehouse principles and techniques, specifically dimensional data modeling
• Strong ability in distributed systems for processing large scale data processing.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical audiences
• Experienced leveraging open-source data infrastructure projects, such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Kafka, Flink, Samza, Avro, or equivalent
• Experienced building data pipelines and real-time data streams
• Experience building software in AWS or a similar cloud environment is highly desirable
• Experience with AWS services like EMR, Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, Elastic search is a big plus
• Computer Science or Engineering degree required, Masters degree preferred
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
