Position Summary

Swiftly is a growing organization and is looking for a Principal Data Engineer who thrives on solving new problems with capable teams and approaches software engineering as a craft, not just a job. Swiftly offers the unique challenge of building an experience that spans enterprise services and consumer applications within the physical environment of a retail store that this role will be vital in solutioning. Swiftly is looking for someone with a broad understanding of patterns, practices, coding standards, vendor solutions, frameworks and tooling to choose the right solution to meet business goals and objectives. Additionally, it is important for this person to have a strategic mindset to understand how these choices fit into the roadmap of where Swiftly needs to be.


Responsibilities Include

  • Taking customer data and processing it via Python and Spark in a Databricks environment using SQL in combination
  • Creating and Maintaining Azure Data Factory pipelines to ingest data and run Databricks
  • Daily maintenance of data bricks providing fixes when necessary
  • Researching various questions from internal teams as well as for customers when applicable
  • Working with Data Analysts to answer data questions and offload repeatable processes
  • Validating data processes and results
  • Performance tuning of data processing and access
  • Creating dashboards & alerts for internal process and data monitoring
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industry experience architecting, coding, verifying and operating large-scale data pipelines and architectures
  • B.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment
  • Mastery of SQL, NoSQL, Document DB, Key-Value, Columnar and blob data storage patterns
  • Operational experience with multiple vendor solutions for repository patterns and the ability to quickly identify the right solution for a given data architecture and workload
  • Proven ability to collaborate with client and service engineering teams to ensure the best possible data architecture
  • Operational experience architecting, building and operating large scale data warehouses and/or data lakes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mix of startup and large software company experience
  • 5+ years of industry experience in ad campaign data analysis and reporting
  • Understanding of data science and have experience building data pipelines to support data scientists
  • Management and technical leadership experience
  • Strong experience with Apache Spark, DataBricks, or similar distributed analysis systems
  • Experience with ad-hoc analysis and data visualization platforms including Excel, PowerBi, and Tableau
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL and other common data engineering scripting languages
