About our Research Associate program

Nearly everyone in Research starts as a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate. Regardless of where you start, you will join one of our dataset teams with an initial focus on mastering our proprietary data entry tool and research process. Once mastered, you will take on various tasks, helping your team ensure its dataset meets high quality standards while continually increasing the efficiency, productivity and quality. The focus of the role will be on secondary research, which is the collection of data publicly available from websites, news sources, and other sources.

This development approach creates a pathway for our Senior Research Associates to grow into Team Leads and Research Managers within the Research team or transition to a variety of roles in other teams at PitchBook.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ramping up to become an expert in one of PitchBook’s core research areas of private equity, venture capital, M&A or Institutional Investors by researching, collecting, and entering data on private companies within a specific dataset into the PitchBook Platform.
  • Collaborating cross-culturally with global teams to lead a remote research process
  • Reviewing previously-researched information to provide feedback to other researchers.
  • Managing workflow for off-shore team members.
  • Continuously generating, developing and improving processes, tools and methodologies.
  • Analyzing and solving root causes of systemic data problems.
  • Identifying opportunities or projects to improve upon the core quality metrics (comprehensiveness, accuracy, timeliness).
  • Onboarding, training and ramping newer members of the team, both on-shore and off-shore.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and refining performance metrics as well as reporting on results for off-shore team members.
  • Staffing analysis to ensure efficient allocation of resources to complete projects.
  • Coordinating or completing client requests to add new data or update existing data.
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with internal and external contacts (clients and executives in the industry) in persons, over the phone, and through email.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to grow the amount of information PitchBook has available to its clients.

You may be the right candidate if you have:

  • A high attention to detail
  • A background in operations or finance
  • Interest in leading, training or developing remote teams
  • Desire to become a specialist in a specific domain
  • Believe anything below excellent isn’t good enough and expect the same from those on your team
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and in written materials, targeting an audience all the way up to the executive level
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines each quarter
  • Process-oriented and passionate about improving operation efficiencies
  • Strong organization skills, top-notch multitasking skills and ability to prioritize tasks as needed
  • Ability to thoughtfully analyze data and adjust strategies based analysis
  • Incessant curiosity, innovative thinking and METICULOUS work habits;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite such as Excel
  • Experience with reporting or project management tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Asana or LiquidPlanner
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in the private equity, venture capital and M&A industries
  • 2 - 3 years of professional work
