Job Description

The Sr Business Intelligence/Data Analyst will develop system integration test plans, design and author SQL test scripts and test sets that encompass valid and invalid data, prepare test data, execute test scripts, document test results and analysis, including defect identification and resolution, and ensure that data adheres to the functional requirements as communicated by the business.

This position requires a self-motivated, dedicated, focused, and detailed individual to perform specialized testing procedures on data warehouse and ETL processes using both automated and non-automated tools. This is a hands-on position that requires a motivated self-starter with a high degree of personal accountability to manage multiple cycles of data analysis using advanced or complex SQL queries in SQL Server and/or Oracle databases as needed.

A Day in the Life:

  • Plan, coordinate, design, execute, track and report on data-driven testing for a large data warehouse and related software tools.
  •  Develop a strong understanding of enterprise databases, system dependencies and the interfaces between them.
  • Reliably analyze requirements, design, reporting and testing specifications to maintain a comprehensive test suite for Enterprise Systems. Ensure that developed tests can be leveraged in the future through appropriate stewardship of test models, test data, and test processes. Continuously improve test assets based on lessons learned.
  • Define and build the test strategy, test plan, and test cases to guarantee that all data flowing within and across the Acquisition, CRM, Analytics, and Reporting systems assure data quality from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives.
  • Design and execute traceable test scripts that verify and validate the systems’ extraction/insertion and transformation logic. Tracks data elements from source through transformation to target.
  • Work collaboratively with software architects, business analysts, developers, database administrators and data quality to resolve and correct defects. May be required to assist in the manual correction of data errors in source systems as needed.
  • Analyze formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
  •  Identify problematic areas on ETL processes, data workflows, data transformations, and data exceptions.
  • Communicate test progress, test results, and quality metrics to team members and management.
  • Proactively make recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness as it relates to quality standards and testing methodologies.
  • Provide guidance, technical assistance, and mentoring in data quality to other team members.
  • Comply with any applicable IT standards and policies. Keeps current with industry trends and practices within area of responsibility.
  • Mine large datasets and draw actionable insights
  • Present discoveries and insights to line of business teams, relating them to specific programs and initiatives
  • Partner with cross functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Product Management, Engineering in operationalizing the initiatives
  •  Act as the end to end owner of the analytical method, monitoring mechanisms, and corresponding business impact of the solution delivered to the business.
  • Use predictive analytics or machine learning techniques to solve complex problems and drive business decisions
  • Employ the appropriate algorithms to discover patterns of both bad and good trends in order to help drive efficiency.
  • Design experiments, test hypotheses, and build actionable models
  • Contribute to and participate in MBR/QBR providing key results and insights
  • Present findings and recommendations to key decision makers at various management levels using a collection of dashboards, reports, and presentations
  • Learns broad range of design choices and available technology as well as becomes a SME for multiple areas
  • Consistently delivers high quality work with high test focus through automation and reviews and defines the standards for quality for the team, owns deployment,
  • Monitoring prod site issues, plans for issues by thinking proactively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline is required.
  • 9+ years of Data Analytics and Reporting experience
  • 3+ years experience writing complex SQL scripts to accomplish data conversion/validation testing required; experience extracting data and performing external validation of business rule transformation and violations required.
  • Experience with Hadoop is preferred 
  • 3+ years direct hands-on experience with query editors, ETL and/or automation test tools; Informatica PowerCenterIDQ, HP-Mercury Quality Center and Functional Test/QTP preferred.
  • 4+ years experience with RDBMS (Oracle 10g+ or SQL Server 2005+) and database scripting and tools required Proficiency with Microsoft Office 2010 productivity suite
  • Expertise with all phases and stages of testing including functional, system, integration, data validation, performance, load, end-to-end, and regression testing.
  •  Strong experience designing and developing modular manual and automation test procedures and test cases utilizing data driven, validation and verification techniques and strategies.
  • Prior healthcare industry experience in an Agile/Sprint development environment desired.
  • Strong knowledge of Data Warehouse and Data Quality practices and concepts.
  • Advanced understanding and interpretation of requirements, technical documents and development code. Proficiency in developing SQL scripts and testing extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes.
  •  Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills are necessary. Strong troubleshooting, investigative, and problem solving abilities. Superior written and verbal communication skills with ability to clearly and concisely articulate issues effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Detailed-oriented with the ability to decompose complex and diverse projects into manageable pieces.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-manage and prioritize tight deadlines effectively.
  • Strong team player, self-starter and can work independently or with direction.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment with cross-functional teams is required
