Role Description

We’re seeking an experienced design director to lead a new team that will set a vision for our new product and the design system that will scale them to our users. This leader will help develop a vision for a connected design platform which will enable Dropbox’s multi-product future as well as oversee the strategy, and execution of the Dropbox Design System. This work will set the standard for cohesion in our existing and future products.  The ideal candidate will take a systems mindset to create a common, shared code and design framework that combines high product usability together with cost-effectiveness in the overall product development process. In this role you will partner with our Product Design, Brand Studio, Engineering, Product Management teams, as well as Senior Leadership teams to build and deploy robust yet flexible design systems, processes, and tools. As the leader of a new and impactful team, you will also be a key contributor to building our design team culture and upholding craft quality across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Help set direction for design role in multi-product enablement, defining platform UI standards & product strategy
  • Drive alignment across teams to develop design platform standard that create cohesion within our team. 
  • Help set direction, including setting a long-term, aspirational vision and defining the team’s goals, quarterly OKRs, roadmap, and sprint commitments
  • Champion processes for evangelizing the Design Systems work with EPD and establishing relationships with leaders across EPD to understand how Design Systems can best support their efforts to build high-quality products
  • Advise on the visual and technical direction of experience design, visual style, and technical tooling, with input from design and engineering teams
  • Partner with engineering leadership to set a vision for reusable ui, using a modular approach to front-end development
  • Utilize research methods to assess efficacy of the system as well as customer questions and needs
  • Drive adoption of the Dropbox UI standards across teams and disciplines

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in product design, including experience building and evolving an effective design system
  • Extremely organized and consistently advocates for design methodologies and processes
  • Cares deeply about technical, scalable, and user-centric models of building products
  • An excellent communicator and influencer who can work well with various groups and levels of the organization
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, with an entrepreneurial ownership mentality
