The Job

Tango Card is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Product Design to build the team, vision, and systems to deliver delightful and intuitive product experiences.

You will guide your teams to achieve design excellence through data-driven insights, deep creative vision, and effective leadership while ultimately being accountable for the overall success of your products and team. To achieve success, you will lead all aspects of the product design process, from user research to prototyping to product launch, including iterative improvements to and within our existing product suite. And, ensure results can be tracked, measured, and improved upon.

We're seeking someone who has a track record of successful product design and developed thriving teams. You know what is needed to build, nurture, and manage a team of inspired, inventive, and knowledgeable product designers to foster an intentional design culture. As Tango Card grows, you will advocate for the design perspective across the organization, catalyzing alignment with partners and stakeholders across all of our teams. You will be encouraged to be active in the design community with external partners and peers. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging leader with the opportunity to bring your experience to a growing company.

You will be successful at Tango Card if you are:

  • A Self-Driver - you proactively take ownership of a problem or objective and take initiative to find a solution.
  • A Simplifier - you reduce sophisticated problems down to the right balance of flexibility, functionality, and ease of use.
  • A Cross-Functional Partner - you are skilled in explaining your work, process, and decisions to cross-functional stakeholders and crave feedback to help you produce your best work.
  • A Design and Creative Thinker - you cultivate design consistency to extrapolate and extend shared patterns and behaviors while also identifying edge cases and imagining possible alternate states.
  • Humble and Diligent - you set and achieve priorities that balance the project, our company, and our customers.

You will not be successful at Tango Card if you are:

  • A UX Purist - one that only has experience in UX rather than across the entire product design discipline.
  • A Miser - one that hoards information and learning rather than sharing standard methodologies and mentoring others.
  • Complacent - one that prefers to stay inside their comfort zone and avoids learning new things.
  • A Monist - one that can only visualize one perspective rather than represent all of the voices not in the room.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional user experiences for our clients, both external and internal.
  • Work closely with product management, engineering, and leadership to create and align the short, medium, and long-term design strategy that supports our users' needs and achieves business objectives.
  • Articulate a vision and foster collaboration across the organization to build alignment around our priorities and passion for our products.
  • Be accountable for all product design deliverables, processes, standards, and KPIs.
  • Build, lead and develop a talented and inclusive team of designers across a range of design skill sets.
  • Ensure innovation, creativity and exceptional quality are part of the final and built solution.
  • Develop scalable, clear design-focused processes, resources, and project plans, including user research and design delivery schedules, for all responsible product areas.
  • Enhance and expand existing user research techniques and practices and be able to prioritize incorporation accordingly.
  • Implement design systems and/or style guides, inclusive of best practices around usability patterns to drive efficiency and consistency into our user experience.
  • Lead design critiques and reviews and coach designers to lead design sprints and workshops.
  • Work with Marketing to ensure consistency between product experiences and brand expression.
  • Set clear expectations and then communicate plans and progress explicitly and consistently with senior management, product, engineering, direct reports, and other stakeholders.

To be effective as the Director of Product Design at Tango Card, you must have the following education and experience:

  • 6 years experience in User Experience Design, Product Design, or related field
