The Role

As our first mobile game designer, you will create the core game dynamics, mechanics, and components to build intrinsic user engagement and sustained use.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build game elements that support our mission of keeping members engaged in long-term recovery
  • Create clear and complete game design documentation for game content and features
  • Work with Product and Analytics to balance game parameters based on user feedback and playtesting
  • Author fun and rewarding narrative quests that make use of new and existing game mechanics
  • Provide vision and input for overall game direction
  • Listen to feedback from users and react accordingly
  • Lead play-tests, brainstorms, and post-mortems to enhance learning

Requirements:

  • Passion for crafting amazing gaming experiences for the mobile platform
  • Expert understanding of gameplay elements and when each is appropriate, especially in casual games (variable probability rewards, user choice, narrative, scarcity, currency, positive/negative reinforcement/punishment, etc.)
  • Experience with freemium/F2P design, including virality
  • Self-motivated, strong creative identity, imagination, and holistic game design skills
  • Can adhere to tight schedules and adapt to changes
  • Comfortable with agile development
  • Comfortable directing input with other disciplines such as Art, Animation, and Programming 
  • Knowledge of the game industry, trends, competition, platforms, and market
  • 3+ years of game design experience within casual and/or mobile space with shipped titles

Bonus:

  • Portfolio of successful casual/mobile games
  • Passion for helping people stay in recovery
  • Understanding of Contingency Management for behavioral treatment

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
