The Principal Visual Designer helps evolve the look and feel of the Tableau product platform to both delight customers and achieve business objectives. You bring both strategy and craftsmanship to your design work, helping to ensure our product experience is intentional and cohesive.
What you'll be doing...
Create inspiring, strategic, and innovative visual design solutions for enterprise software, working both autonomously or in collaboration with other designers.
Effectively communicate your ideas to a range of stakeholders and audiences through presentation and storytelling.
Perform design critiques and supply constructive, objective-based feedback to others.
Lead ideation sessions to inspire groups to generate creative ideas and set a vision.
Develop future state creative concepts that align with broader product strategy and reflect a deep understanding of our users.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (UX, visual designers, UX researchers, product managers and engineering) on projects.
Contribute to shared process for visual design work, including kick-offs, reviews and approvals, file standardization, etc.
Contribute to the expansion and evolution of our design language system.
Mentor other visual designers on the team.
Participate in recruiting and outreach activities.
Who you are…
Expertise in creating compelling visual designs with consideration for typography, color, iconography, interaction, and motion.
Deep experience applying strategic thinking and business goals to design, challenging established thinking, and discovering new ways of solving a problem.
Fluency in visual design principles at both a conceptual level and a practical level. Based on your experience or training, you can meaningfully discuss, evolve, and share your understanding of ideas like color, shape, space, type, balance, hierarchy, and form.
Good listener who can build consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
Experience leveraging, and contributing to, design systems and guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor other designers.
Proficiency with the visual presentation of data or complex information preferred.
Experience using design and prototyping tools to translate ideas into working products (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe CC, InVision).
A strong portfolio of work that includes shipping visually compelling software products.
