JOB SUMMARY


Code.org is looking for an experienced and creative designer with the drive to own end-to-end design work across our website and training tools used to educate and empower millions of teachers and students all over the world! You will solve design challenges related to our website, marketing materials, and educational tutorials. Your work will have the potential to reach millions of students and teachers worldwide. This role is full-time and remote-friendly. 


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Coordinate website pages for Code.org and Hour of Code
  • Design for tools, tutorials, and development environments used for teaching and learning computer science (grades K-12)
  • Assist in the development of Design System
  • Assist in leading brand and design guidelines across the site 
  • Conduct user testing virtually and in-person, as needed
  • Design elements and illustrations for our site and marketing materials, as needed
  • Manage interns and external contractors for illustration/animation/photography/other work as needed

  • You will need to be comfortable managing ambiguity, thinking creatively to solve problems, and communicating your design ideas and rationale, both verbally and visually.

As our ideal candidate, you have:

  • 5+ years of UX/UI experience on websites or apps with a portfolio reflecting that experience
  • Experience using Figma and Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
  • A firm grasp on gestalt principles, information architecture, and standard methodologies for web and mobile
  • An understanding of responsive design, localization, and accessibility
  • A portfolio of 3-6 pieces that demonstrates visual design skills to make activities fun and appealing to children
  • Intuition and passion for interaction design
  • Ability to communicate with engineers, product managers, and marketing team to create solutions that are well designed and technically feasible
  • Shown ability to own end-to-end design for a product, including research, analysis, concept or prototype, testing, and handoff documentation

Additional skills and interests that would help you be successful in this role:

  • Experience in Education or Ed Tech field
  • Experience building and managing a design system
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, interaction design, fine arts, or a related subject area

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Pass a pre-employment background check

WHAT IS THE INTERVIEW PROCESS LIKE?


Step 1: Informational (30 minutes) - learn more about the role and share your experience

Step 2: Interviews with several members of the Product, Engineering, and Curriculum teams (~ 3-4 hours)

*There will be a task we ask you to do in preparation for your interviews

Step 3: Final Interviews with PM Manager and Lead Product Designer (~2 hours)

Step 4: Reference Checks


All interviews are conducted virtually via Google Meet
