About Us

STEM skills are increasingly important to our future workforce, yet more than 60% of students in kindergarten through 8th grade are not proficient in math within their own grade-level. As a society, we need to bring together our best, most creative minds to tackle this critical problem and ensure all kids are successful in math and reaching their potential. This includes developing the most innovative learning technology that inspires students and empowers teachers.

At DreamBox, we’re passionate about our mission to radically transform the way the world learns. We believe all children can excel at learning, no matter where they start, where they live, or who they are. Today, our Intelligent Adaptive Learning™ platform – with its rigorous math curriculum and game-based environment – is helping 3 million kids and over 130,000 teachers improve math achievement and build a love of math at the same time. And as a rapidly growing tech company, we are just getting started. Come help us make a difference at DreamBox Learning.

About This Role

A day in the life of the senior artist/designer may include creating lesson icons, designing visual style guides for a brand new lesson, helping resolve a technical art issue, and/or illustrating some new wallpapers.

As this is a senior role, you are also expected to support the Art Director in championing best practices and setting a high bar in both art and visual design for the student experience. You will have a strong eye for what makes good art and design and can execute on these principles in the form of design artifacts, concept art, and art assets. Our work environment is highly collaborative; excellent cross-discipline communication and presentation skills and attention to detail are a must.

You should be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and be able to pick up prototyping tools such as Sketch and InVision. Familiarity with web constraints, mobile game development, HTML5, animation, and motion graphics is a bonus.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Contribute to the overall Student Experience primarily through Visual Design of Lessons (both new and re-imagined) based on an established visual style.
  • Partner with the artist in translating the visual design of lessons into art assets using Adobe Animate.
  • Conceptualize and create artwork for the existing student experience when needed: lesson icons, engagement UI, backgrounds, wallpapers, avatars, badges, nano- and mini-games.
  • Partner with developers in the iteration and final implementation of assets within the product and help resolve any art-related issues in the product.
  • Collaborate with Art Director and UX on improving and evolving the student experience: this work may take the form of concept art, mood pieces, key art, storyboards, and UI explorations.
  • Work with the broader Art & UX Team to support improved visual execution across our entire portfolio.
  • Adhere to and Contribute to the advancement of visual guidelines, templates, stylesheets, etc.
  • Participate in User Feedback (e.g. usability studies) Sessions.
  • Create and promote deep empathy with learners of all ages and abilities.

About You

  • 5+ years of game development and/or software experience using Agile/SCRUM.·
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Adobe Animate/Flash. Preference is given to the artist who has created Animate/Flash assets within a game, animation, or software development pipeline.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.).
  • Experience with version control (Sourcetree/Git, SVN).
  • Experience with bug tracking software (JIRA, Redmine, etc.).
  • Bonus: Familiarity with front-end web development (HTML, JavaScript and CSS) – at a minimum, you will understand web constraints.
  • Strong traditional and digital drawing and illustration skills and the ability to mimic various art styles based on initial direction—cartoony, stylized realism, clean minimalist.
  • Solid visual (UI) Design with an emphasis on creating visually stunning layouts and interfaces.
  • Visual Concepting: Strong skills in quickly mocking up ideas to explore visual treatments and provide visual inspiration. Experience creating concept art for games a huge plus!
  • Experience creating art assets for in-game UI, including icons, avatars, and badges.

At DreamBox, we are hooked on celebrating diversity & providing an inclusive workplace and it shows throughout our product, brand, and teams. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Thanks for considering DreamBox Learning!
