Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. JOB SUMMARY 


We are looking for a technical Web Designer/Developer to collaborate with content owners and cross-team members to design, produce, and maintain content on the Code.org website. In this role, you will have strong graphic design and written communication skills in combination with experience and technical expertise in HTML/CSS. You can see the big picture but will have a keen eye for detail, a passion for efficient and clean code.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


As the Web Designer/Developer, you will be responsible for designing, coding, and maintaining marketing and informational content on the Code.org website.


•Design layouts of new pages and prepare necessary images and other assets - while keeping in mind how the page will be coded to be responsive

•Produce web pages using clean and efficient HTML/CSS code

•Collaborate with the product and engineering teams to improve and optimize our internal CMS structure and ensure consistency in web content production process 

•Collaborate across creative teams to track and manage website pages, maintaining quality, editorial standards and consistent styling

•Serve as website content strategist with an understanding of usability standard methodology.

•Work with engineering and the international teams on localization and translated content 

•Test and improve information architecture, navigation

•Track website metrics and performance

•Partner with engineering to continue to evolve CMS strategy


REQUIREMENTS


•Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, mobile web apps, and native apps

•Experience with content management systems such as WordPress

•Experience with Sketch, Figma, and Adobe Creative Cloud

•Prior experience advancing projects from design to content development

•Basic knowledge of accessibility standards and video encoding software

•Experience working collaboratively, effectively, and responsibly in a fast-paced environment


EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS


We are looking for an efficient, detail-oriented self-starter, experienced in communications. You should be able to multitask, excel under pressure, and work independently with a geographically dispersed team. As our ideal candidate, you are flexible, tech-savvy, and able to swiftly prioritize duties as needed on multiple ongoing projects. 


As our ideal candidate, you have the following qualifications:


•5+ years of relevant experience in online content design, production and editing

•Expert knowledge of HTML/CSS required

•Familiarity with Markdown and HAML

•Experience designing and producing a website within a CMS, WordPress preferred

•Experience measuring website performance with Google Analytics

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Meticulous attention to detail, and strong task/project management skills

•Ability to learn and respond quickly

•Demonstrated ability to work effectively across a wide range of internal teams, and produce on deadline in a fast-paced environment

•Proficient in using Google suite of applications

•A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience

What does the interview process look like?


Step 1: Informational Interview - learn more about the role and share your experience

Step 2: Interviews with several members of the Code.org team - we will ask you to carry out a short trial task related to the job responsibilities prior to the interviews. 

Step 3: Final Interview + Meet & Greet with 2-3 members of the Code.org team

Step 4: Reference Checks 


All interviews are currently being conducted virtually via Google Meet
