What You’ll Do:

CoreWeave is seeking a Director of Engineering for our Cloud Experience organization, leading multiple teams and managers to define and evolve our public API platform and developer interfaces—Console, REST/gRPC APIs, Infrastructure‑as‑Code, CLI, and SDKs. You will drive our gRPC‑first strategy with generated REST to accelerate SDKs/Terraform and platform‑wide consistency, while raising the bar on reliability, security, and operational excellence.

In this role, you will:
  • Deliver a cohesive, reliable CoreWeave Cloud API that becomes the foundation for all developer touchpoints (Console, SDKs, CLI, IaC), enabling customers to self‑serve provisioning and operations at scale.
  • Establish and meet API SLIs/SLOs for control‑plane services (e.g., CKS and VPC), partnering with Production Engineering on observability and incident response maturity.
  • Drive a gRPC‑first API strategy with generated REST, standardizing resource modeling, versioning, error contracts, pagination, and long‑running operations to increase delivery velocity and consistency across the platform.
  • Lead an IaC‑first approach to enable day‑one Terraform support for new GA products, partnering with DX and Docs to deliver high‑quality providers, SDKs, and developer documentation.
  • Partner with IAM to evolve federation‑centric authentication and fine‑/medium‑grained access policies across public APIs and Console/Terraform experiences, ensuring consistent authorization semantics at scale.
  • Own API governance and lifecycle management: internal design reviews/RFCs, contract stability, deprecation policy, and compatibility guarantees to protect customer workloads and speed internal teams.
  • Collaborate across Security, Observability, and Infrastructure to ship scalable, secure public APIs and platform capabilities aligned to company objectives and product roadmaps.
  • Build and scale high‑performing teams: hire and develop managers and senior engineers, set clear goals and accountability, mature on‑call with actionable runbooks, and foster an inclusive, growth‑oriented culture.
Who You Are:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years leading managers and multi‑team organizations delivering customer‑facing platform surfaces at scale.
  • Proven track record delivering reliable public APIs and backend services with measurable SLOs and leading cross‑functional initiatives spanning multiple product lines.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing infrastructure using Kubernetes, scalable architectures, and automation.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to set technical strategy, write and review RFCs, and drive outcomes amid ambiguity and rapid growth.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize problem statements from interactions with customers,

Preferred: (if applicable)

  • Experience with Kubernetes control-plane/API design patterns and CRD ergonomics; ability to bridge KRM and gRPC/REST interfaces where appropriate.
  • Experience with API gateways, rate limiting, multitenancy, and edge security at scale.
  • Understanding of authentication, authorization, and policy frameworks; proven ability to integrate IAM into API surfaces with consistent semantics.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
