We are looking for an exceptional Chief Security Officer (CSO) to lead the Security team at Unity. The Unity Engine is a premier platform for a variety of different interactive media experiences, ranging from console and phone games, to Hollywood film CGI, to cutting-edge AR/VR interactive experiences and industrial simulations. With our software installed on Billions of devices and with close to 2 Billion monthly active users it is our team’s mission to protect Unity’s customers, employees, and corporate infrastructure from cyber security threats and hostile actors.

Unity’s universe is made up of a range of products and services delivered through various teams and business units across the globe. The Security team’s work impacts every division and group in two ways:

  • Foundational elements that provide security for systems or processes that are used by most or all of the business units.
  • Direct engagement items that are the result of a specific interaction with a particular person or team.

The Security team operates in a wide range of geographical regions, cultures, platforms, code bases, infrastructures, and cloud environments. We routinely engage with groups such as R&D, AI, ML, Monetization, Account and Support Services, Marketing, Finance, HR, IT, and Legal. We are dedicated to identifying and remediating risks before they materialize, anticipating and implementing controls that meet evolving regulatory requirements across industries and jurisdictions, and staying current with evolving security risks and threats. 

As a leader, you will bring security to every corner of Unity and its ecosystem. You will oversee multiple teams in a global setting where your team members will support our four pillars of security: AppSec, InfraSec, SOC, and PMO. You will have the freedom to structure your team as you see fit as we expect you to more than double its size over the coming years. Ultimately, you’ll be using your experience as a seasoned leader to grow and structure the team to support the demands of our rapidly expanding business across the globe.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Unity’s executive leadership team to refine the technical vision and short- and long-term plans for the security team of Unity
  • Manage a team across four functional areas of security at Unity: Security Operations Center (SOC), Application Security (AppSec), Infrastructure Security (InfraSec), and Security program management (PMO).
  • Review and approve security policies, controls, and cyber incident response planning
  • Road map and definition of Unity’s global security architecture and plan.
  • Brief the executive team, Board of Directors and CEO on status and risks, including taking the role of champion for the overall strategy and necessary budget; and Communicate best practices and risks to all parts of the business, outside IT
  • Influence decision makers across the company to consistently drive the best security practices. The Company to ensure the adoption of security frameworks in all development architecture.
  • Ensure security and privacy for data internationally working with foreign governments to ensure compliance in the countries Unity has business in.
  • In conjunction with HRBP work on organizational design and development - drive optimal organizational structure for now and in the future.
  • Hire and develop team according to security roadmap and long-term planning. Provide training and mentoring to security team members. 
  • Build a very strong culture of security and privacy awareness within every corner of the company.

Requirements:

  • Ten to fifteen years of experience in technology security, with at least seven years of experience in cyber intelligence, incident response, security assessment, security operations, or computer network defense functions.
  • At least seven years of leadership experience in progressively responsible roles in a demanding environment; strong leadership skills and ability to effectively manage high performing staff.
  • Five years of senior director/executive level leadership experience.
  • Experience managing security at a public company with accountability to the board of directors and audit committee.
  • Expert knowledge in internet security protocols and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform security risk and compliance assessments in complex, multi- department, and technology environments.
  • Proven thought leadership in technology, strategic thinking, and decision-making
  • A disciplined thinker with a structured approach to security architecture and strategic planning
  • Strong understanding and experience of federal, state, and local regulatory compliance drivers and requirements relevant to information security and data protection ranging from PCI to GDPR.
  • Preferably a Masters degree in information technology, telecommunications, management information systems, computer science, computer engineering, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.
  • Must be willing to travel (Domestic and International) as required but no more that 25% of the time

Bonus Points

  • Understanding of Cloud security concepts and tools.
  • Experience in all aspects of disaster recovery.
  • Desired Industry Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CSSP, CEH or equivalent
