Podcasting is the fastest growing medium in the world. At the end of 2018, it was a $350m industry that had doubled every year since 2018. We’re two months into 2019, and the size of the space has already doubled again to $700m. Podcasting is a tidal wave, and it’s only just emerging.

Kimberlite is tackling the biggest problem in podcasting by equipping creators with the tools they need to easily monetize and grow their audiences. We’ve already created the simplest solution for podcasters who want to monetize their audiences directly. Next, we’re making that product even more robust and versatile for podcasters and moving on to creating other tools that make it easy for podcasters to monetize, analyze, and grow their audiences. For the first time ever, podcasters will have the tools and insight necessary to be customer-centric and create things that they know their biggest fans love. Our north star is helping creators build businesses around their crafts, empowering a generation of entrepreneurs whose superpower is the ability to create content people love, find valuable, and rely on. We’re building something the industry has never seen before, and early results say that what we’re doing is working.

We’re looking for a rockstar CTO to join us and build out our engineering team from the ground up. You’ll work hand-in-hand with the CEO to shape company strategy, recruit a team of developers, build and execute on our product roadmap over the next year. You’ll work hand-in-hand with bizdev, marketing, and design to build a product that podcasters love. That means building out the UI, developing the database that will be one of the biggest in podcasting, and writing and maintaining API integrations with CRMs, payment processors, and other podcasting companies.

About you:

You have a track record as a full-stack developer who can showcase your past experience developing tools for creators, businesses, marketplaces, or all of the above. You also have experience building and managing a team of engineers who report directly to you. You’ve got a strong knack for product and can partner with our CEO and founder to shape strategy, anticipate needs, and can either roll up your sleeves to code solutions yourself or direct a team towards building these solutions. You’re an incredible project manager who can direct a small team of engineers that will own the experience for both listeners and creators. That means being the product and tech mastermind behind creating seamless checkout experiences for listeners and amazing tools that help podcasters monetize, analyze, and grow their audiences. You work independently and love shipping product on a regular basis. We’re creating something that doesn’t exist in the world yet, so you won’t just be adding value through your code, but to your insights on the needs of our customer and the business--and your ability to translate these insights into best-in-class tech solutions that make creators say, “wow.”

And, you love podcasts.

As the CTO of Kimberlite, you’ll...

  • Serve as a thought leader and strategy driver for the team along with the CEO and founder. Build and embody the company’s culture and mission.
  • Build, build, build: especially in the early days, you’ll be rolling up your sleeves and writing code, from architecture to fixing finicky bugs
  • Recruit a killer team, managing staffing, mentoring, maintaining and bettering a best-in-class engineering team that loves coming into work every day
  • Partner with the business and design teams to understand the customer and shape product vision and requirements
  • Develop the long-term strategy for the company and translate that into an achievable road map
  • Understand how all elements of the software lifecycle work together and develop quality engineering approaches to define the overall architecture
  • Create integrations with various 3rd-party APIs and software solutions (analytics, sales tax calculation, credit card processing, etc..)
  • Design test strategies and create appropriate test harnesses, data, and tools that increase the speed of sprint cycles and allow for constant high quality results
  • Get to know our customer (or know them well already) and use that empathy to inform building an exceptional product
  • Maintain and build on top of the initial version of the webapp and Stripe integration (Heroku, Django, React)

This job might be for you if...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of team management experience
  • You’ve got experience scaling a company
  • Have experience partnering with the business side of the house on business and budget planning
  • You’ve worked on marketplaces, tools for creators, and/or tools for small business owners
  • You love the idea of shaping the future of an industry, by imagining and building the tools that enable that future

We are an equal opportunity employer and highly value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
