About the Role:

RealSelf is looking for an inspiring and skilled Chief Technology Officer to oversee all technology aspects of the company, reporting directly to the CEO. This individual will work closely with senior leaders to deliver on the company’s mission to help people make smart, confident decisions about aesthetic treatments. The CTO will set the technical vision for RealSelf, building an infrastructure that scales beautifully and provides the foundation for predictable, sustainable growth. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in defining and dominating a previously untapped category alongside other newly hired and long-time C-level executives. In this role you will:

• Oversee the development of software to support a world-class experience for consumers, doctors and medical aesthetic providers
• Put RealSelf on the map as an industry-leading technology company that drives constant innovation and progress
• Establish a social-mobile-first mentality and allocate resources accordingly
• Effectively balance short-term and long-term priorities to maximize overall company value
• Anticipate, plan for, and act on shifts in technology and market trends
• Foster and model a transparent, cross-functional, and results-driven culture in which individuals and teams effectively prioritize work and deliver on commitments
• Provide hands-on leadership to an existing team that includes senior-level engineering managers as well as 30+ individual contributors
• Develop innovative strategies to attract and retain talented people and create a diverse, inclusive, and supportive work environment where everyone is respected and able to do their best work
• Tackle the challenge of modernizing the organization’s code base while still delivering on short-term product needs
• Stay in front of emerging technologies and determine when and how to implement them
• Be a responsible steward of RealSelf resources, knowing where to invest and where to economize

A great CTO candidate has:

• A proven track record of leading high-performance engineering teams, delivering business impact, and providing thought leadership
• “Maker” spirit and a passion for the art and science of software development
• Shared conviction in achieving the company’s vision and mission
• Experience in scaling up, having seen a web-based, consumer-facing product or service evolve and adapt through major stages of growth
• Master’s degree in technology or related subject (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of 10-years-experience in technology
