About the Role

Highspot is looking for a DevOps Engineer to support our rapidly-growing development organization and cloud infrastructure. As a startup we're embracing the total-ownership model with engineers on-call for their own services in a supportive and collaborative environment. The DevOps team is a crucial partner in building a reliable and scalable product for our customers and a sustainable work environment for our product and engineering teams.

What You'll Do

  • Work with developers to ensure Highspot applications are operable, scalable, and deliver the highest quality experience to our customers.
  • Participate in code-reviews, rotating on-call, architecture reviews, and project planning.
  • Embrace failures and treat incidents as teaching opportunities through blameless post mortems and in-person discussion(s).
  • Understands the value of observability and monitoring, and can evangelize best monitoring practices for solid service coverage.
  • Identify and own opportunities to improve and shape all aspects of our development and delivery workflow.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and use a critical eye to shape the team’s efficiency.
  • Assist engineers in Project Management aspects; help identify blockers, and reign in the scope while focused on making incremental progress. Lead project estimation discussions. Must be capable of digging into the “Why” behind project requirements.
  • Experienced in working with developers who might need extra assistance in completing a solution, or who might be learn to master a specific skill set. Values the idea of sharing knowledge within the team, and to the broader product organization.
  • Experienced in conducting research initiatives. Also knows how to provide guidance on technology trends and best practices to peers and leadership.

Your Background

  • You're driven by curiosity and the understanding to support, learn, and guide a team to be successful.
  • You believe that automation is the key to building humane, reliable, systems. 
  • You're proficient with at least two programming languages (we use a lot of Ruby).
  • You're an excellent troubleshooter and gracefully-proficient on the command-line.
  • You understand Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), and Release Engineering best-practices.
  • You have a strong background in Cloud Infrastructure and automation.
  • You approach security work with a high regard.
  • You value the importance of health checks for a given service and want to evangelize the practice.
  • You understand the value of solid monitoring in large-scale SaaS apps and have experience in instrumenting code for good observability.
  • You have great interpersonal communication skills and work well in a diverse, team-focused environment.
  • You enjoy writing quality documentation for solutions and processes.

Location

Our HQ is located within walking distance of Pike Place Market and the Seattle Piers. With amazing 360 views of the Puget Sound and Downtown Seattle. The only downside, there are almost too many places to pick for your lunch meetings.
