About the Role

As a DevOps Manager, you will manage a team and work collaboratively with all of the engineering team to deploy and operate our infrastructure and platform. You will be responsible for helping to automate, monitor and streamline operations. You will build and maintain tools for the deployment, monitoring and troubleshooting of our development, testing and production environments. Applicants will need to understand the differences and commonality in technical requirements, end-user needs, and security and compliance requirements of each environment. Applicants will also need to be comfortable playing a mix of roles, including mentoring and coaching and technical contribution and guidance. You will act as a coach, offering expertise and guidance as your reports navigate their careers, and empower your team to be as autonomous as possible.

Responsibilities

• Owning and driving accountability for your team’s roadmap and milestones
• Guiding design and development of Routable’s infrastructure and development processes
• Evaluate and implement technologies that improve efficiency, performance and reliability
• Develop and deliver creative solutions that enable engineering teams
• Provide support and implement tools to enable workflow improvements for engineering teams at Routable
• Build common tools and procedures to streamline and standardize development and deployment
• Build, support, and deploy AWS infrastructure across environments
• Using data-driven decision making to identify and prioritize high-impact initiatives
• Recruiting and retaining strong talent
• Mentoring and career development of DevOps engineers
• Anticipating, identifying and clearing roadblocks for the team
• Providing clear direction and effective decision making
• Own the on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience and 2+ years of hands-on technical management experience
• 5+ years of experience working in an DevOps role or similar
• 5+ years of experience with Linux system administration, including but not limited to shell scripting, bash
• 5+ years of experience in building and managing infrastructure in AWS, including but not limited to EC2, RDS, Cloudfront, ECS, VPC.
• Solid understanding of build, release, infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred), and networking concepts. Hands-on experience with orchestration and system configuration tools (Ansible preferred).
• Expert in building and maintaining highly available applications including redundancy, fail over, scalability, monitoring and performance.
• Experience with Prometheus is a plus
• Highly skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks, identifying anomalous system behavior, and resolving root cause of service issues
• Experience with CI tools (CircleCI preferred)
• General awareness and recognition of security to repair and monitor vulnerabilities
• Work experience with modern languages (Python preferred)
• Experience with the following technologies Docker, Kubernetes; ECS is a plus
• Effectively worked with senior leadership in setting strategic 6+ month goals
• Experience with effectively creating alignments with multiple teams and operating well in ambiguity
• Retained, mentored and hired senior engineers and leaders with a track record of building productive, world-class engineering teams
• Consistently made culture choices that positively impact all of engineering
• Shipped multiple large scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams

Location

You must be currently authorized to work in the United States or Canada on a full-time basis.

To help foster amazing relationships with our coworkers, we meet up twice a year as a whole team in some pretty awesome cities! In the past we’ve met up in San Diego, Seattle, and Austin. We’d rather invest money into memorable team events rather than expensive offices. During our meet-up team time, we love to spend time learning a new skill together, and solving problems. Most recently this has taken on the form of a bread-making class and defeating an Escape Room. Yeah.. We love to compete together as a team.
