At the center of our travel marketplace is the Search & Discovery organization. In this organization, we’re building search and discovery services to infer travelers’ intent and surface relevant travel products and services. The problems in this team require crafting control loops through data, machine learning, and online serving systems to serve millions of travelers worldwide.


We are looking for an engineering leader with strong technical skills and experience with building consumer products to form, lead, and grow an engineering team to build recommendations services. These recommendations will enable travelers to use our diverse portfolio of brands to easily find and plan travel that meets their unique needs.


What you’ll do:

  • Lead, grow, and develop the team from inception through effective hiring, mentoring, coaching, succession planning, and retention strategies

  • Inspire and coach the team to create a technology roadmap and vision, providing guidance to both your team members and peers

  • Be a subject matter expert, own the tech strategy and outcomes

  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics, standards, and processes for regular assessment and improvement

  • Support team members in their own areas of responsibility including but not limited to technology selection, contract definition, execution planning, and team management

  • Create a positive work environment based on accountability and inclusiveness, in partnership with peers on the leadership team

  • Create an excellent customer experience, raising the bar on functionality, usability, and simplicity

  • Define objectives, key results, and key performance indicators, and be accountable for tracking against them


NOTE: You will be asked to make a presentation on a case study as part of the interview process


Who you are:

  • Built and operated cloud-based highly available and scalable online serving or streaming, or machine learning-based systems utilizing large diverse data sets in production for 7-10 years

  • Developed commercial products and are proficient in programming languages like Java, Scala, Kotlin, Go, Python, etc.

  • Built and led teams and grew manager and individual contributor bench to deliver business results for 5 years

  • Dealt with ambiguity and led others through untrodden paths to pursue outcomes

  • Worked well across divisional boundaries to build partnerships

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent practical experience
