Moz is seeking an Engineering Manager within our Application Development team, responsible for building a broad range of tools under our Moz product subscriptions, including applications that enable digital marketers and SEOs to track, analyze, and improve websites’ key SEO performance metrics over time. We empower customers to thrive and grow their business through SEO by constantly expanding and improving Moz’s suite of data collection, processing, and aggregation services, and by building a beautiful suite of analytics and reporting applications on the web.

The team is part of the larger product engineering group at Moz which owns the development of Moz’s core SaaS products, and the growth of our future product offerings. Product engineering collaborates across roles and disciplines to deliver tools for digital marketers in all industries and aspects of Search.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver value to customers on a consistent basis by enabling their team. 

  • Build highly collaborative relationships with stakeholders in Product personally and a strong partnership between the Application Development team and Product team.

  • Build and maintain existing and new technology to enable our products to serve our customers, including responsibility for up-time and strategically evolving services as needed.

  • Build and maintain a highly functional and performing team of developers to build our products.

Experience We Want to See

  • Demonstrated experience leading engineers as a manager with hiring, mentoring and performance review responsibility.

  • Solid experience delivering products or services using web technologies. You've done this more than once and have been through enough delivery cycles that you know how to anticipate roadblocks and work through them. 

  • Prior experience on a team whose work directly affected customer or end-user product experience. You've products and features on time and on budget and done so at least a few times.

  • Working knowledge of the systems that make up modern web applications, including APIs, microservices, distributed backend systems, relational and non-relational databases, and cloud services (AWS preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability to assess the current state of services, and make strategic recommendations about how they should evolve. Includes management of technical debt including risks to the business. 

  • Experience leading agile software development practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop teams and individuals.

  • Strong desire to learn and grow.

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience leading distributed or remote teams.

  • Experience building SaaS products, especially mature products that have sustained growth over time.

  • Product and UX knowledge and focus.

  • Significant experience as a software engineer or SDET.

  • Experience with object-oriented or functional programming languages (developing or leading teams).

  • Knowledge of search and SEO.
