Cloud services are a rapidly growing part of our platform. You will work with a highly skilled and motivated team, designing and scaling the next generation of Unity’s connected gaming and multiplayer functionality. This combines game engine and client tools with networking and server infrastructure to enhance connectivity for all of Unity’s game developers.

• Highly scalable client, server, and persistence infrastructure required for multiplayer games
• Generalized systems that democratize development of complex multiplayer features, including matchmaking, chat, dashboards, and more
• Multi-threaded and high performance systems

We are looking to add an Engineering Manager to our Connected Gaming team to help us better guide the development and delivery of features and cloud-based services. You will drive features and products to market while providing a team with rich insights into the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you’ll help determine the optimal balance of time and effort to meet the needs of all and lead/mentor a team.

Responsibilities

• Absorb and investigate relevant trends, insights, and patterns within the Unity community and our industry at large
• Promote and maintain communication and dialogue between our business units and clients to foster alignment on product development
• Play a vital role in the ideation, technical development, and launch of innovative products and features
• Establish a shared vision across the company by building consensus on priorities leading to product execution
• Contribute to product development by collaborating with our engineering, design, and marketing teams
• Integrate usability studies, research, community feedback, and market analysis into product requirements to keep our global Unity customers happy
• Define and analyze metrics that inform and evaluate the success of our products and features
• Provide guidance on tasks, timelines and keeping the teams on schedule

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as an engineer and/or Engineering Manager building tools or services for developers
• A comprehensive understanding of the tools, resources, and applications being utilized and developed for game developers
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience

Bonus points

• Game development or related industry experience
• Designing and developing RESTful APIs
• Authentication and authorization models for the web
• Understanding of UDP, TCP, Websockets, and/or HTTP protocols
• Multiplayer and game service design, including Matchmaking, Chat, Leaderboards, Clans, Lobby, etc.
• Familiarity with relational and nonrelational databases
• Good understanding of deployment tools such as Chef, Salt or Ansible
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Self motivated and self managing
