Downdetector, acquired by Ookla in 2018, is the trusted source for internet service availability information worldwide.

We are looking for a front-end engineer with solid technical fundamentals and a successful track record of building consumer web applications and enterprise services to help us deliver the next generation of Downdetector and Speedtest services to our users and customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will play a key role in the development of our Downdetector and Speedtest web platform, throughout all phases of application development
  • You will be asked to solve for reliability, scale and flexibility, as well as implement a visually rich and engaging user experience
  • You will collaborate on architecture, technology choices, and interactions with other core components such as backend APIs, analytics, our distributed testing network, and other application platforms (mobile and native apps)
  • You will focus on the front-end but be capable of developing across the full stack
  • You will collaborate with a small group of motivated team members who love to get things done.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of front end or full stack software development experience
  • Expertise with web technologies (HTML5, CSS/LESS/SASS, JavaScript)
  • Expertise with Python web development technologies including Django
  • Expertise with React or AngularJS
  • Experience with networking (IP, TCP, UDP, WebSocket)
  • Proficiency with collaborative development workflows (source control, branches, PRs) and continuous integration practices
  • Experience with Agile SCRUM and/or Kanban practices
  • Excellent debugging and problem solving skills
  • Experience working as a part of a distributed team
  • Strong time management skills, self driven work ethic

PREFERRED

  • Experience with fault-tolerant distributed systems, best practices, design patterns
  • Experience with cloud deployment (AWS) and serverless architecture
  • Contribution to open source projects
  • Data visualization and or map-related visualization experience

Location: This role will be based out of our Seattle headquarters office. We provide excellent workplace flexibility for working remotely as time and responsibilities allow. Occasional visits to our Dublin, IR will be expected.
