GATEWAY SITE DESIGN MECHANICAL ENGINEER

One of the most ambitious missions that SpaceX has undertaken to date, the Starlink satellite constellation, is our solution to providing reliable internet to the entire world. The Ground Segment team is responsible for managing a worldwide network of broadband access gateways and satellite control ground stations from site acquisition to operational assurance. You will be part of a small team with significant impact on the service delivered to our customers around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deploy a worldwide network of mission and business critical antenna sites
  • Design and analyze site equipment including antenna mechanical site hardware, onsite power systems, antenna layout, fencing, site shielding, conduit utility routing, and controls rack
  • Manage all phases of site construction including initial design, mechanical upgrades, civil improvements, sub-contractor management, and onsite installation operations/inspections
  • Interact with internal mechanical design and software teams along with external suppliers to implement, test and troubleshoot gateway site mechanical, electrical, and network systems
  • Responsible for full project life-cycle management and schedule of site development including mechanical, civil and structural aspects of site development

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or civil engineering
  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical, civil or structural engineering design, analysis, and drawing creation

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ years of professional experience in field engineering and project management
  • Installation and operation of tracking, VSAT, or fixed antennas in the support of satellite service or operations
  • Experience creating, reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals for antenna systems
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX, or equivalent 3D modeling software

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to travel 15% of the time, up to one week at a time

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
