In order to advance our mission to – “Enable Personalized Care for Every Cancer Patient,” we are seeking a Director of Engineering Operations.
Job Summary
In this role you will lead Interoperability (Engineering) and liaise with our teams in Sales, Product Management, Order Fulfillment, Support and Marketing to implement and manage a streamlined process for handling all engineering aspects of onboarding a new client successfully onto NC’s solution. The primary objectives of the role are to gain an in-depth understanding of our client’s business needs and collaborate to ensure those needs are met throughout the sales, setup, training, go-live, and support hand-off processes. 

 

You will also be responsible for leading SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) to establish robust DevOps and Quality Management practices. You will be responsible for managing all of Navigating Cancers’ applications in productions, ensuring availability and performance, monitoring key infrastructure performance indicators and business services defined under Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) and Underpinning Contracts (UCs). 

 

This position acts as a thought leader for measuring our overall production health and drives for a higher level of quality through transparency to the client experience. This position requires commitment to exceptional results, a strong desire for continuous improvement and the ability to build a collaborative culture within the team.
Responsibilities
(For Interoperability) 

  • Establish a world-class Interoperability team to integrate Navigating Cancer’s platform Clinical EMR’s, Lab data, 3rd party and partner systems.
  • Establish interop requirements in partnership with Sales, Product Management, Order Fulfillment, Support, Marketing and Platform Engineering teams.
  • Oversee the design and development of bi-directional HL7 & FHIR interfaces, API oriented interfaces and/or other interface types between Clinical systems, 3rd parties and NC Platform.
  • Design standardize and own interoperability Key Performance Indicators and performance dashboards, compliance scorecards and associated processes. 
  • Lead and contribute to processes that create strategic interoperability technology roadmaps.
  • Establish clear and concise interoperability onboarding processes and procedures, including verification and validation of interfaces
  • Manage communications across departments to ensure proper use cases, implementation configuration, and software setup are completed to client specifications within the established timeline(s)
  • Ensure each new client interface timelines are kept on track and manage risk to prevent tasks and projects from “falling through the cracks”.
  • Work with internal teams to define and document the specific tasks, milestones, and plans for client interfaces implementation. Supervise execution on plans based on urgency and client needs. 
  • Record all client-related engineering communications so we know what the client’s success criteria are, what we did to meet/not meet those criteria, and any lessons learned to make the process better going forward.
  • Partner with the Order Fulfillment and Support teams as they handle and maintain existing and new client accounts and communicate service objectives/performance measurement standards between clients, associates and various support areas; assist in building new services based on current customer input.
  • Direct, motivate and lead team to ensure "World Class Service" is provided to external and internal clients, tracking and reporting performance to ensure team accountability and quality of service.
  • Stay current with industry and regulatory rules and requirements; partner with clients, senior leadership and internal teams to ensure products / solutions are current and in compliance.
  • Participate and contribute in the development of annual operating budgets for InterOps.

(For SRE)

  • Ensure reliability of internal networks, systems, infrastructure and key software applications
  • Responsible for reliability of technology infrastructure, integrity of data and integration of systems into business processes 
  • Ensures the security of the company's data/systems by keeping up-to-date on the latest cyber security advancements and finds ways to guard against threats on an organization-wide scale
  • Keeps abreast of trends in technology as they relate to Interoperability and DevOps and incorporates these trends into strategic direction and decision-making
  • Oversees IT team and ensures adequacy of technology capabilities across the organization
  • Provide strategic direction for: workforce design that optimizes individual opportunities and team results, business processes, marketing and executive level communications.
  • Drive increased Automation, establish robust Quality Management with an objective of reducing Operational risks, eliminating errors, driving increased efficiency and balancing cost of operations.
  • Partner with Product, Order Fulfillment, Support and Engineering leaders to translate business requirements into planned improvements and monitor effectiveness of systems, policies and procedures, making recommendations to ensure daily operations are efficient.
  • Be accountable to assess readiness, plan and deploy product releases.
  • Define non-functional requirements as part of the product life cycle to influence the new designs, standards, and methods for scalable, highly available distributed systems.
  • Establish clearly defined department and individual goals and objectives. Hire, train, develop and mentor associates; foster professional growth and career development, as well as build bench strength within the team.
  • Oversees the development of annual operating budgets for SRE (Operations) 
  • Partner with the CTO and Product leadership to be a thought leader in defining and realizing the Infrastructure, DevOps and QMS vision & roadmap. 
  • Establishes the strategic direction for building the business’s cloud and hosting program and optimizing how the business uses cloud solutions both internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • 10 recent (within the past 5 years) years’ experience leading in senior leadership position designing, implementing and operating multi-site, high-availability, data center infrastructures and associated virtualization implementations in an Enterprise class SaaS environment, preferably in the healthcare industry.
  • 7 or more years in IT and business/industry with technical leadership responsibility in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders. Extensive experience in managing Cloud infrastructure and operations
  • Understanding and/or work experience utilizing of HL7V2 and HL7V3, Healthcare integration gateways / solutions. 
  • Experience operating on AWS (both PaaS and IaaS offerings)
  • Experience in Security triage & forensic analysis
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery concepts, including Infrastructure as code, Containerization concepts like Docker, and PaaS services on AWS.
  • Experience with elastically scalable, fault tolerance and other cloud architecture patterns
  • Demonstrated strength in SaaS services, experience in massive scale web and data operations
  • Experience in setting up testing, quality assurance, test automation and or certification or audit programs.
  • Working knowledge of standards, regulations and other regional or national standards, as necessary.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of project-handling concepts, systems, tools, applications, policies and processes
  • Ability to compose a variety of complex documents including analyses, policies and proposals. Ability to present information to, respond to controversial inquiries from and negotiate with individuals or groups of internal or external clients, top management, government agencies or other influential groups.
