Pivotal is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer - Electronics Outdoor Packaging to develop enclosures for antenna products. This position will support and lead fast-paced projects while working closely with a small group of scientists, engineers and business leaders in a start-up environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to think creatively and to operate within a flexible, fast-paced program dedicated to advancing the Holographic Beamforming product suite. This position is on the is focused on Product Development and shipping products.

 

Responsibilities:

 

•Perform research for product development purposes and then complete design and development in such areas as mechanical structure, weatherproofing, thermal and EMI management for antenna and microwave components

•Apply completed research to plan, design and develop mechanical or electro-mechanical systems, instruments and/or controls 

•Conduct feasibility studies and test new modified designs 

•May direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication

•Hands on engineering work utilizing standard techniques, processes and procedures typically utilized in product development

•Conduct feasibility studies and test new modified designs 

•Independently devise new approaches and solutions to solve problems

•Review work at appropriate milestones to ensure that overall objectives are being met 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

•5-8+ years of mechanical engineering experience for outdoor telecommunications or wireless product enclosures 

•Previous experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Packaging Engineer, Electronics Packaging Engineer or related title

•A BS or MS in mechanical engineering or related degree with relevant experience

•Excellent 3D CAD/PDM/PLM skill set – Solidworks preferred, Creo/Pro-Engineer acceptable. Arena experience a plus

•Experience in Electro-Mechanical sackaging

•Experience dealing with thermal, EMI, vibration and contamination issues 

•Hands-on experience with machining, sheet metal design/fabrication, soft tooling processes

•Ability to multi-task, work quickly, accurately and communicate effectively with team members

•Experience creating complete design/documentation packages for production

•Ability to work in a team setting to carry a design from concept to manufacturing

•Talent for troubleshooting design issues as they arise

•Ability to prototype models in order to evaluate new concepts and reduce risk

•Works independently and as part of a team

•Fluency in both written and oral English. Ability to prepare clear and concisely written reports and presentations

•Able to organize design reviews and lead technical discussions

•Good working knowledge of DFM, FMEA, FEA and geometric tolerancing

 

Desirable Expertise:

 

•RF antenna/radio product development experience

•Manufacturing experience in high volume (100,000/year) production

•Plastics selection and molded part design experience

•Experience project managing mechanical design projects

•Opto-mechanical experience

•CAE experience/capabilities (both structural and thermal desired – Ansys experience a plus)

•Design of experiments experience
