About the Team

The Engineering Team is responsible for building and running all the products that Subsplash offers. We are a super-star team of software engineering, QA, and site reliability professionals creating polished experiences for our clients and end-users. The Engineering Team is responsible for the entire user experience including: Mobile Apps (end-user facing), Subsplash Giving, the Subsplash Dashboard CMS (client-facing), Web App, TV App, backend data feeds, analytics, SnapPages (website builder) and more. We serve thousands of clients, millions of end-users, and billions of individual app impressions.

About the Role

As a QA III, you will report to the Release and QA Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for executing manual and automated tests for the purpose of discovering defects (both functional and visual) and reporting on them in a written fashion. The surface area that you will cover will be extensive -- mobile apps (iOS, Android), backend web services, front-end javascript projects, legacy code bases and even PCI-compliant environments. You will contribute to the creative process by helping to identify problems quickly. You will work with other members of the team, in a highly collaborative environment, to arrive at meaningful and beautiful solutions. You’ll be working with us to drive design and development to completion, thus shipping beautiful and extensible software that delights real people. You will also help to establish testing and quality assurance best practices that allow for others to join in on the process.

Top 3 Key Outcomes in Year 1

  • Become a subject matter expert on all Subsplash products, gaining comprehensive knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of each, and understand how it all works together behind the scenes including the Dashboard, APIs, Micro-services,  and databases
  • While following the basic software development life cycle and agile workflow of the project team with which you are supporting, identify process improvements and modifications to improve effectiveness and velocity
  • Act as Tester and defender of Quality, leading other Testers and test efforts on multiple project teams, while driving issue investigation and reproduction of bugs

Your Priorities

  • Identify, investigate, and mitigate bugs and other issues related to quality, including dependencies, boundary cases, and high risks areas, while tracking down the root cause of the issues
  • Communicate regularly with PMs, Devs, and Designers to ensure that we are releasing excellent quality work that meets our internal requirements 
  • Develop a comprehensive testing strategy and pipeline with increasing amounts of automation 
  • Work with other members of your project team, in a highly collaborative environment, to arrive at meaningful and beautiful solutions that delight the client
  • Attend all project team meetings, including daily stand-up meetings, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and sprint retrospectives

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of testing experience in a group or team environment 
  • Proven ability to use Agile practices to work and think iteratively through the testing/QA dimensions of software products and ship goals 
  • Intermediate level knowledge of continuous integration environments such as Jenkins, TravisCI, or GitLab
  • Extensive knowledge of web systems, including the various HTTP requests (GET, POST, etc) 
  • Deep knowledge of mobile app development environments: Xcode, Visual Studio, Android Studio, etc.
  • Intermediate level knowledge and experience with at least one of the following scripting languages: Go, Elixir, Python, or similar language
  • Experience with software testing frameworks like Selenium/Appium or similar tools
  • You know, and can deliver, at least one hilarious yet appropriate joke in an entertaining manner
