Your role and impact

As Engineering Manager, Platform Development, you will lead our Platform Operations team that is responsible for the core infrastructure at 98point6. Your position will include growing and managing the team of engineers building infrastructure, services, tools and reusable components, with the goal of enabling the entire engineering organization to efficiently manage and operate their own infrastructure in accordance with industry best practices and within our controlled development process.

Strategic projects you will lead in your first year include:

  • Designing and driving multi-account AWS implementation that enables engineers to do their job safely, create isolated environment and least privilege access, and automate new account and organizational setup using a combination of software and infrastructure-as-code
  • Creating shared reusable libraries for CDK and other internal tools (e.g., internal web apps) that enable engineers to efficiently build common infrastructure without deep knowledge of the underlying well-architected solutions
  • Lead scalability testing for all systems to identify where we encounter bottlenecks, implement monitoring and mitigations to avoid disruptions when load scales to this level and then plan work in collaboration with other teams to ensure our systems are ready to scale with our forecasted growth
  • Collaborate with the Security Engineering team to build software and systems that automatically identify configuration issues in AWS, and other systems, and take corrective action

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, manage and develop a diverse group of engineers at all levels, including planning team growth over the coming years based on company objectives
  • Develop team members in alignment with their needs and goals
  • Prioritize, plan and schedule your team’s work based on business and customer requirements, operational debt and risk
  • Support operational excellence across the engineering team through regular operational reviews, leading and participating in incident retrospectives with root cause analysis and defining and driving to KPIs
  • Drive technical and process improvements with measurable impact on engineering team and company
  • Lead and support operational review and root cause analysis and identify actions to address and prioritize with appropriate alacrity based on business and customer needs

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience managing or leading an engineering team
  • Experience growing and developing an engineering team
  • Experience prioritizing, planning and scheduling work for an engineering team with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Experience running mission-critical, 24/7 systems
  • Proven experience authoring technical design documents, project plans and incident retrospectives with root cause analysis
  • Past experience designing and coding in Java, C#, Python or similar language for production services that operate on the public internet
  • Past experience using AWS to build production infrastructure and operate at scale
