Department Overview
Studio & Industry Engagement (SIE) is responsible for building and managing applications that are used by other businesses and professional individuals to interact with Warner Bros. Discovery. These applications run the gamut of: journalist access to images, in-person and virtual red carpet screening, mobile based screening apps for award voting, talent management for production scheduling and ability for employees to stream our entire WBD catalog.
Role Overview
The Senior Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for managing a team that is responsible for the Content Management System (CMS) and API that manages the platforms used for streaming our content to internal users and external business partners. The position requires a unique combination of startup-like resourcefulness, technical expertise and a background in video streaming.
The role focuses on engineering/development, architecture, technology strategy and helping to shape the evolution of the department's engineering culture. This position will report to the Director of Software Engineering.
The right candidate should be comfortable in an open, fluid, fast-paced environment and bring an energetic and creative approach to the work, spanning high-level strategy as well as in-the-trenches execution.
The Daily

  • Recruit and build out the engineering team for Studio & Industry Engagement's streaming platform team.
  • Iterate on existing features and build new features for the content streaming CMS & API
  • Build and manage cutting-edge capabilities utilizing machine learning and data science (e.g., processing video content for metadata, etc.)
  • Participate in cross team collaboration to architect solutions assisting with application consolidation.
  • Mentor, guide, coach, coordinate training opportunities and support individual growth and technical skills across the engineering team.
  • Leverage industry best practices and tools to continually improve teams' ability to build, operate and maintain applications.
  • Ensure that technical solutions are in line with established standards in respect to architecture, security, corporate governance, coding standards, monitoring, logging, testing and service enablement.


The Essentials

  • 10 - 15 years working in a technology role with at least 5 years of experience in leadership managing software engineering teams.
  • Programming experience with modern languages
  • Advanced technological understanding of cloud services and technologies. (AWS preferred)
  • Experienced with video streaming technologies
  • Bias for action, a sense of urgency and willingness to jump in and execute tactically.
  • Experience working in an agile and matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent methodical problem solving and influencing skills
  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and empathetic towards teams and partners


The Desired

  • Java programming experience
  • Modern API architecture background
  • Azure cloud knowledge (in addition with AWS experience)
  • Content Delivery Network (CDN) usage (ideally Limelight, Akamai and Cloudflare)
  • Knowledge of Digital Rights Management (DRM) technological usage & implementation
  • Understanding of media file packages and usage in transcoding and streaming

The Legal Bits...
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $145,250.00 - $269,750.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
