Our mission is to protect life.

We’re out to make the world a safer place by solving big problems and taking on the public safety challenges of our time. From our company's inception building the TASER device to a full suite of hardware and software solutions, we are focused on providing police agencies with the state-of-the-art devices and services they need to successfully serve and protect us. In the next few years, we're going to eliminate the burden of paperwork in policing, so officers can increase the time they spend building relationships and serving in their communities. We’ll put video at the heart of the police record so our justice system can get to the truth faster. And we won't stop innovating until the bullet is rendered obsolete.

It’s a big mission, but it’s one we’ll pursue relentlessly every single day.

Your Impact

It’s a big mission, but it’s one we’ll pursue relentlessly every single day.

Are you a developer who gets enormous satisfaction from solving scalability and reliability issues? Or perhaps you have been working on feature work for a long time and want to learn more about architecting, running, and securing the systems on which the software stack runs? In this role, you will navigate our service-oriented system to make low-level infrastructure changes, write internal tools/scripts that automate our day-to-day work, and manage infrastructure as code via tools like Terraform, Jenkins, Puppet, Packer, and Docker.

The ideal candidate will enjoy the challenge of learning our service-oriented backend systems, making code changes for performance improvements or architectural changes, debugging reliability issues at the application level or Linux level, building cloud infrastructure, and working side-by-side with feature teams on the design of their systems, providing guidance on best practices in systems engineering.

You will work closely with your teammates in the Site Reliability organization, which includes a diverse array of backgrounds and expertise, from software engineers, seasoned Linux gurus, database administrators, and infrastructure architects. It is common for us to debug complex networking issues that require us to understand how our software is interacting with the kernel, as well as the virtual disks and network interfaces of our cloud providers. Axon's older services run on a legacy platform consisting of long-running VMs that are managed by Puppet, and Axon's newer services are all containerized and run in a Kubernetes-based platform. You will be solving problems and making improvements on both platforms.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years experience
  • You have developed software in service-oriented systems
  • You have written software that runs on Linux systems and have a strong working knowledge of Linux
  • You have worked on 24/7 high volume systems with zero-downtime requirement
  • You have built software with CI/CD systems such as Teamcity, Jenkins, or similar
  • You are excited to be the final backstop for issues that no one can solve

Preferred Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • You have experience with container-based platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • You have worked with configuration management tools (Puppet, Salt, Ansible)
  • You have demonstrated the ability to debug complex systems
  • Experience with common languages used at Axon: Python, Golang, Java

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary and 401K with employer match
  • Discretionary paid time off
  • A supportive parental leave policy
  • An award-winning office/working environment
  • Ride along with real police officers in real life situations, see them use technology, get inspired
  • And more...

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
