This role allows you to work from anywhere you choose across the U.S. (excluding U.S. territories), with the flexibility to work from the Seattle HQ office as often as you’d like. Please note that no matter where you are located, all employees should be available during our core working hours from 10 am to 4 pm PT Monday through Friday.

 

Your role and impact

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help define and execute the long-term vision for the Data Platform architecture. You will implement new technologies to enable the next generation of data-driven applications, with the goal of providing end-users with actionable analytics. 

Strategic projects you may work on in your first year include:

  • Build robust and scalable data infrastructure (batch processing and real-time) capable of loading and transforming large volumes of structured and semi-structured data
  • Build tools and services to support data discovery, lineage, governance, and privacy compliance across the data platform, and enable self service analytics
  • Architect tools & frameworks to improve data quality
  • Develop a CI/CD process for infrastructure components to ensure high availability

Responsibilities

  • Influence data architecture and organizational capabilities, and enable data products and data-driven decisions across the company by building and improving upon our data infrastructure
  • Ensure data infrastructure offers reliable high-quality data with consistent SLAs
  • Write code, documentation, participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers
  • Understand and influence logging to support our data flow, architecting logging best practices where needed
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for continual improvement of processes and systems

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Java, Scala, Python or similar object-oriented language
  • 3+ years of experience working with AWS or any other cloud providers
  • Experience in development of scalable cloud native microservices
  • Fluency in database design & SQL
  • Experience scaling and operating distributed systems like big data processing engines (e.g. Spark, Flink),  messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis), or data lake technologies (e.g.  S3, Delta Lake)
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and tools
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to inspire and align not only other software engineers but cross-functional team members as well
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including collaboration with all cross-functional teams (both technical and business)
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, Build Trust and Collaborate with internal stakeholders in an agile development environment

Bonus

  • Experience working with AWS technologies: EMR, AWS ElasticSearch, Kinesis
  • Experience with Airflow, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS CDK
