Groupon’s Audience Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to help us with our mission of connecting and engaging customers with merchants worldwide as part of a rapidly evolving local commerce platform. As a technical contributor, you will help define and build the next generation targeting engine that leverages big data, analytics, algorithms and highly available, real-time distributed system principals.

As a Software Engineer you will help design and implement our next generation targeting and related technology infrastructure across web and mobile devices. The systems you will build will manage the efficient spend of tens of millions of marketing dollars worldwide. As part of the Audience Engineering team, you’ll use a variety of cutting-edge technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Postgresql, Cassandra, Dropwizard etc. to build pioneering local commerce services that directly impact millions of people across multiple platforms.

Key Qualifications:

• 3+ years of industry experience in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Scala, Ruby, Python, etc.

• Practical experience with Object Oriented Programming

• Experience with Distributed Key/Value stores

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, and complexity analysis.

• Ability to drive projects from scoping requirements to actual launch and delivery.

• Experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-performance web services.

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Math or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases (Redis, Cassandra etc) and big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Storm etc)

• Extensive experience with open source technology stacks

• Understanding of the message delivery media such as SMS, email, and push notifications.

• MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

• Familiarity with Agile development process, TDD/BDD, and *NIX development environments

You’ll spend time on the following:

• You will develop compliance applications for the Groupon microservice ecosystem

• You will collaborate with teams in other organizations to ensure that required business features and compliance rules are implemented effectively

• Build service artifacts, plan deployment, coordinate timeline and tasks with project management and teams

• Improve service stability by identifying critical service specific metrics, setting meaningful alerting thresholds, and automating alerting responses

• Create and maintain documentation for your projects

• Mentor junior staff

• Drive the discussion and decisions of technical topics related to the team

We’re excited about you if you have:

• BS, MS or PhD in Computer Sciences or related fields with 5+ years in software development

• Solid knowledge with relational databases

• You should have experience developing and supporting web applications and with supporting and troubleshooting internal and external requests / bug report in transactional environment

• Good communication and collaboration skills
