Building a next-gen scalable, global platform for personalized local+mobile commerce is uncharted, challenging, and you can make your mark working at Groupon.

Some of the things you’ll be doing:

• Conceive, code, and launch the next-generation in Groupon’s ranking and personalization system; your system will power all use cases for multiple countries: mobile, web, and e-mail.

• Build a flexible, generalized high-performance global data engineering platform for (1) real-time search, indexing and ranking (2) scalable, efficient push mechanisms, that allows for rapid and robust customizations for all combinations of use cases (channels, countries, item types).

• Put your strong background in high-performance systems, big data, analytics, and large-scale software design to good use.

• Use big data technologies such as Spark, Apache Beam, Storm, Map-Reduce, Elasticsearch, Cassandra and Redis.

• Contribute to projects with significant company-wide (global) impact and bring them to fruition.

• Contribute to open source projects, file patents, present papers at important conferences.

Some things we are looking for:

• MS/PhD in Computer science, with an emphasis on search, high-performance systems, algorithms, database systems or similar field. We will also consider strong BS candidates with related background and experience.

• Strong coding skills in a language such as Java/Scala/C++/Python etc.

• Industry experience in relevance, search and algorithms a plus.

• Industry experience with building very high throughput consumer Internet sites, a plus.

• Rigor and robustness in coding and design, thorough understanding of performance trade-offs.

• Great communication and project management skills.
