Our mission is to protect life.

We’re out to make the world a safer place by solving big problems and taking on the public safety challenges of our time. In the next 10 years, we’ll triple the amount of time officers can spend serving their communities. In the next 20, we’ll eliminate paperwork in policing so that officers can focus on what matters. And in the next 50 years, we’ll make the bullet obsolete.

It’s a big mission, but it’s one we’ll pursue relentlessly every single day.

THE PRODUCT: 21ST CENTURY COMMUNICATION

We are building a new product that will help police officers at the most critical moment – when they’re responding to a call for service. How do we get cops the right information, at the right time, and in the right format, so that they can arrive at the scene prepared and ready to act? How can we equip them to coordinate with each other and their partners (fire, medical, other neighboring agencies)? The right solution will utilize intelligent mapping and routing, real-time communications, applications of artificial intelligence, and a heavy focus on making industry-leading experiences usable for both officers doing 60 MPH in a 35 zone and dispatchers handling hundreds of calls a day.

If you are interested in solving critical, concrete, real-world problems, this is the challenge for you. If you love to get close to your users to understand not just their workflows and their tasks but their mindsets and their culture, this is the place for you. If you are interested in creating a mission critical product used to save lives, this is the product for you.

THE TEAM

This is not a typical “enterprise SaaS” user base. These public servants work in a uniquely challenging environment and they expect their software to be there for them in the most difficult circumstances. As such, we are extremely close with our customers so that we can deeply understand their goals, their needs, and everything that keeps them from keeping us safe in the most efficient and effective way possible. Everyone on the team, from engineers to designers, gets regular opportunities to ride along with officers while they keep communities safe. Your first ride-along with a patrol officer will forever change your perception of what the job is, and what the city is like.

ROLE CONTEXT

As one of the early engineering leaders on the team, you will be intimately involved in the architecture decisions that will shape this product. You live and breathe cloud services that require high availability and fast, consistent performance. You love working with the latest open source technologies, and can leverage your system design skills to make the right technical decisions on a greenfield project.

Working on this team is like being part of a well funded, early stage startup. In the beginning, you will attend “cop camp”: deep immersion via ride-al-longs and sit-alongs to understand up close what law enforcement users need from their systems. You are invigorated by the opportunity to be an early member of the team, and enjoy building a solid foundation for a very visionary product. Should you join the team, you will be surrounded by like-minded people who are passionate about our mission. We are allergic to red tape, meaningless process, crufty code, and jerks.

We would love to talk to you if you have:

  • 6+ years professional software development experience
  • Experience designing and delivering high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems
  • Deep backend service experience in multiple, managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, C#, or similar
  • Experience working with multiple SQL or NoSQL datastores
  • You follow the latest in software engineering and open source technologies, and can intuit the fine line between promising new practice and overhyped fad
  • Proven ability for coaching and mentoring
  • You love delighting end users and hunger for novel challenges

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
