In order to advance our mission to – “Enable Personalized Care for Every Cancer Patient,” we are seeking candidates for the following role:
Sr. Software Engineer, Interoperability
Job Summary
As a core member of the Interoperability team at Navigating Cancer, you will:

  • Work on all aspects of our interoperability platform.
  • Develop strong healthcare technology and industry domain knowledge.
  • Invest in meaningful work to enhance the workflow process and operations of cancer care providers (physicians, nurses, social workers and others) as they provide care to patients.
  • Lead by example to grow our team’s continuous improvement, code quality, and software craftsmanship.
  • Mentor teammates across the seniority spectrum in best practices, and provide actionable, empathetic feedback and guidance throughout our engineering organization.
  • Investigate data related issues to determine root cause and implement process improvements and solutions.
  • Become an advocate for growing, improving, and evolving our data platform and its use across our technology platform.
  • Coordinate with and support our customer success teams to ensure the smooth and timely on-boarding of customers to the NavigatingCare platform.
  • Seek opportunities to open our platform to more Oncology practices and create innovative integration solutions and tools.
  • Provide support for our existing software systems to identify and fix software issues.
  • Make recommendations for improvement in processes.

  • Mirth Connect Interoperability Engine

  • HL7 v2 and v3, C-CDA
  • FHIR
  • Git
  • Async Messaging Systems (RabbitMQ)
  • Resque / Redis
  • AWS EC2, S3, RDS
  • DevOps tools (Docker, Ansible)

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7-10 years developing with Java and/or Ruby
  • Knowledge of working with clinical data
  • ActiveRecord or desire to learn Ruby and ActiveRecord
  • A strong understanding of object-oriented design fundamentals and best practices 
  • Proficiency with SQL relational databases and writing medium complex queries
  • A bias for action, and experience making things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excitement for the mission of Navigating Cancer and improving the lives of cancer patients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams, with customers, and outside integration vendors
  • Strong problem solving skills

Bonus Qualifications

  • Knowledge of working specifically with oncology clinical data
  • Experience integrating data from various clinical systems such as, EHRs, lab information systems, pharmacy, and/or claims data
  • Experience with healthcare integration standards such as FHIR, CCDA, HL7, SMART on FHIR and CDS Hooks, etc.
  • Experience with Mirth Connect or other integration engine
  • Experience leveraging existing clinical data/information and/or creating new data models from scratch
  • Working knowledge of healthcare data in the cloud, healthcare data hub/pipeline (S3, Aurora, Glue) 
  • Experience with ETL (Extract Transform Load) systems and tools
