At Lyft, the community is what we are, and it’s what we do. It’s what makes us different. To create the best ride for all, we start in our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization where all team members are recognized for what they bring.

Passengers rely on Lyft to get to work, to go to the doctor, or to get home safely when public transit has stopped running. Drivers use Lyft for income and flexibility. Building a stable and reliable application for our passengers and drivers is a responsibility we take very seriously.

The Edge team is the team at Lyft responsible for Lyft’s presence on the internet. It is this team’s goal to make sure that the Lyft edge network scales to our millions of mobile customers, supports the needs of our product teams and enterprise partners and is a best-in-class solution for latency, throughput and performance. In 2019, we are planning a major redesign if our border and several automation projects to support unique business needs. The Lyft Edge makes use of our popular open source proxy Envoy and this team will share responsibility for maintaining that platform at Lyft.

We’re committed to building a diverse and multidisciplinary team that is hiring engineers who are familiar with large internet-facing distributed systems as well as those who have experience with mobile networking. Therefore, we are considering a variety of backgrounds everything from: software engineers, backend engineers, production engineers and SREs.

  • Review code from your peers to ensure that we are creating an excellent product
  • Submit new ideas and proposals to the team for ways to better Lyft production
  • Share an oncall rotation with your team for those systems you write
  • Engage with stakeholder teams to understand their needs and find the best way to accommodate it or make suggestions for how they can fit Lyft’s best practices
  • Advise and guide teams at Lyft toward better front end performance

Your responsibilities:

  • You are interested in a distributed environment with a huge mobile customer base.
  • You are passionate about making the future better by learning.
  • You want to automate anything requiring human intervention.
  • You are interested in creating and fair and engaging open source community.
  • You are dedicated to collaboration, kindness and teaching.
  • You are steadfastly focused on your customers.
  • You have a strong focus on metrics and know how to measure the health of systems.
