Production tools is a new team at Lyft tasked with creating systems that the business and engineering teams use to react to operational issues. It is our goal to make Lyft the most stable transportation system in the world by creating best-in-class tooling to detect, avoid, mitigate, recover and learn from operational issues. This team’s mission is to create those systems and help establish guidelines for operational best practices. In 2019, we are planning new incident communication portal, incident review tooling, engagement and paging systems, change management tooling and service health systems. Most systems developed by this team are planned for open source.

We’re committed to building a diverse and multidisciplinary team that is hiring engineers who are familiar with operations in large distributed systems and organizations as well as those that have expertise in tool design and user experience. Therefore, we are considering a variety of backgrounds everything from: front end software engineers, backend engineers, production engineers and SREs.

You will join a collaborative environment that is focusing on learning from the past and enabling a stable future through tools, best practices and education. You will work with teams of stakeholders across Lyft to understand how you can best improve their processes with tools. You will join the existing production readiness and incident review teams to help ensure the tone remains one of learning and to ensure that Lyft continuously improves.

 

Production Tools Team Responsibilities:

  • Write systems that all groups at Lyft will use to manage the business
  • Review code from your peers to ensure that we are creating an excellent product
  • Submit new ideas and proposals to the team for ways to better Lyft production
  • Share an oncall rotation with your team for only those systems you write
  • Engage with stakeholders team to understand their operational environment to get input on making our systems better.
  • Advise and guide teams at Lyft toward exceptional practices
