The Role

The Service Fabric team is building the foundations of a globally distributed, secure and scalable modern application architecture to meet Outreach’s emerging business needs. Simultaneously, the team is enabling engineers across Outreach to build state-of-the-art services by providing tools and libraries for service configuration, setup and management. We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to build out the team, collaborate closely with the engineering organization, and deliver on the vision and scope for the team. 

About the Team

The mission of the Service Fabric team is to deliver the foundational platform components and services to support Outreach customers, internal first-party developers as well as third-party partners and engineers. This rapidly growing team is driving the design, implementation, and operation of systems around API querying, distributed data access, routing, optimized workload scheduling and processing, and feedback based rate limiting. Using tools and libraries delivered by this team, engineering teams can leverage best practices and patterns seamlessly, while monitoring and profiling their services for performance and load characteristics. 

Your Daily Adventures Will Include

  • Manage, coach, and mentor a growing team of senior and principal level engineers
  • Build a team culture of growth, collaboration, impact and trust
  • Own the project backlog for your team, working closely with product management and engineering stakeholders to identify projects and set priorities
  • Drive the vision and deliver on key commitments for the team
  • Effectively design, build, and operate systems at scale 
  • Define and track key performance metrics for your team
  • Collaborate closely with recruiting to define job requirements, interview candidates, and build the team

Basic Requirements

  • 3+ years of management experience with software engineering teams
  • Demonstrated success owning and delivering on problem statements from start to finish
  • Experience attracting and collaborating with Senior and Principal level engineers
  • Experience with complex architecture in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous experience mentoring and growing a senior engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in working with services written in Golang is highly desirable 
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale
  • Experience with our technical stack: Go, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, ElasticSearch, MySQL, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes

Our Lower Queen Anne office is located along the beautiful Elliott Bay waterfront north of Belltown, near Myrtle Edwards Park.
