About the Role

As a Software Engineering Manager reporting to Director of Engineering, you'll champion product thinking and provide technical leadership. You’ll hire and develop the engineers on the team with a focus on mentorship and career growth, lead a technical roadmap, and establish and improve the engineering processes used by the team. You’ll ensure we make sound technical decisions and suitable trade-offs between delivering projects and long-term investments. You enjoy learning, working with, and advocating for new and different technologies that provide wide benefits to Remitly. You’ll partner with product managers and senior management dedicated to driving our business and customer experience forward. You’ll be an advocate for excellence at systems-level design, development, and operation at the company.

You Will:

  • Hire and mentor engineers, helping them grow and grow their careers.
  • Build frameworks and processes helping the team operate autonomously towards goals, with a focus on customer value.
  • Partner with product and engineering management, contributing to the product roadmap by presenting technical options and trade-offs.
  • Lead design discussions and work hands-on with the code, diving in to help bring new features or debug live issues.
  • Anticipate technical challenges within the team and Remitly and guide architectural changes to address them.
  • Engage team members and other engineering leaders to promote collaboration and shared patterns across the organization. 

You Have:

  • 8+ years of experience in a software development
  • 4+ years of experience in a technical leadership role
  • Experience defining and driving technical designs and processes
  • Experience building and shipping scalable, and high-availability systems.
  • Expertise in one or more general purpose programming languages like Go, Java, or Kotlin.
