F5 seeks a Quality and Test Architect to join our team of forwarding thinking leaders to own internal projects to completion. You will determine through experience and research the most effective designs for various F5 offerings.

You will have multiple years developing, designing, and/or operating large scale services and possess a rich set of technical design patterns to match the right technical architecture to the business and economic drivers for a given service strategy. You will be comfortable and effective engaging internal audiences as a strategic listener and advisor. You are a coach/teacher who is hands on and collaborative. An empathetic, approachable expert with thoughtful, convicted positions who can connect with a variety of personality types and maintain strategic perspectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify and research new and emerging approaches and technologies, and open source projects relevant to CI/CD Pipelines, Quality, and Test.
  • Architecting and implementing a resilient pipeline and monitoring system for the Engineering organization.
  • Building tooling to assist our engineering team with automation, deployment, and testing while researching and defining benchmarks for security, testing, performance, and code quality
  • Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes, and technologies.
  • Works closely with architectural, operational, product and development teams to ensure hardware, software and product architectures are developed in line with the vision and future direction of F5’s products
  • Partners with management on driving product timelines; Participates on design projects.
  • Generates and promotes new theories, concepts, principles and methodologies within Testing and Quality.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience developing, and/or operating container environments, particularly with Docker and Kubernetes as the container orchestration system.
  • Strong ability with L3/L4 networking especially as it pertains to cloud networking environments.
  • Understands the value of resilient system design.
  • Strong background working in Agile environments and with Agile methodologies.
  • Understanding of the differences between architecting network infrastructure and applications for the legacy enterprise datacenter versus the modern hybrid cloud/public cloud.
  • Highly strategic and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to understand and educate others on the pros and cons of various technical design options.
  • Uses design patterns to improve efficiency and scale development efforts.
  • Natural inclination to explore, prototype, and self-teach.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 15 years of related experience; or 12 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 8 years; or equivalent experience.
  • CI/CD: Experience with a modern CI/CD system (e.g. GitLab) and employing it to its full potential.
  • At least 3 years performing systems architecture/design: Experience in cloud services, container environments and a solid understanding of standard methodologies for service-oriented architecture.
